Re: 2017 Draft Discussion
When you get to the level of Mik or Steve or Mike...you treat picks and prospects as a luxury item and not as currency.
When you lack actual tradeable players...you look at trading picks and prospects as your only way to improve. I know I'm in that group. I'm working my way out that neighborhood.
I use this term a lot but you want to have a situation like Mik where he has a sustainable roster. His NHL roster is strong. He keeps his draft picks and acquires more when he sells off stuff...like me with Malkin. And he hangs onto his prospects and lets them develop. If he has holes in his lineup or injuries, he can pull from his deep pool of prospects or he makes a trade but he never depletes his entire pool.

We're blue collar GMs. Wanting to compete for so many years I traded away all my future. Such is life...Shoalzie wroteCOLONWhen you get to the level of Mik or Steve or Mike...you treat picks and prospects as a luxury item and not as currency.

How many hours do we have per pick?
I thought that it was pretty clear last year that if you were sleeping or actually unavailable then it was OK to take huge amount of time, but if you are here multiple times and leaving continuously for no reason then it's being ridiculous. If u are trying to trade it take an hour during your pick, but each has had a large amount of time to make trades before your pick is on there clock.

We're almost at 24 hours of waiting for 3 people to make their picks.
24 out of 31 hours waiting for 3 people.
The draft sure is exciting.
There you go Mik, now you can say that i am complaining. You were more or less 12 of those hours so it's easy to play the fool when you are at fault.

Re: 2017 Draft Discussion
I've been busy all day but yes, it would be nice to pick up the pace. Granted, we're half done with the round in less than a day and a half. Overall, it's a decent start. I know the early rounds might drag because these are picks with higher stakes.

Re: 2017 Draft Discussion
I just know once we hit the fourth round I'll be sure to use my full 8 hours per pick to really be sure there's no value to be squeezed out of a pick.
Re: 2017 Draft Discussion
I have 10 more picks in the first 4 rounds and if it takes me running the clock for each of them to get a more reasonable timer in future drafts.. well. Buckle up boys is going to be a long wait.

It's 12 hours for a reason. If it takes me a full 12 hours to decide what I want to do then that is what's going to happen. Don't like it, well you are on the cc so push for a change.Matthew wroteCOLONHow many hours do we have per pick?

Re: 2017 Draft Discussion
We know that most don't use the full time. It's there of you want to use it. It's one of those things that we allow but don't encourage.
It's the old lesson when I played little league baseball...what are going to do if the ball is hit to you. Try not to go into this unprepared. Have an idea of what you want to do ahead of time. If a guy you want is gone...work on a trade. Make a short list of names ahead of time. It's not difficult.

It's 12 hours because people have commitments and need to sleep. You've been here the entire time.CasperX22 wroteCOLONIt's 12 hours for a reason. Well that seems reasonable. Complain about other people taking too long, so purposely run the clock just to be a dick.Lee wroteCOLONI have 10 more picks in the first 4 rounds and if it takes me running the clock for each of them to get a more reasonable timer in future drafts.. well. Re: 2017 Draft Discussion
We have a stop overnight to accommodate sleep and if you have commitments then its not a big deal to pass on a short list of guys if you think you're going to step away. I can understand taking an hour or two or maybe up to even 5 if you're caught at the wrong time but is there really anyone who actually is unable to be here for 11 hours at a time that really needs it outside of the aforementioned reasons?Matthew wroteCOLONIt's 12 hours because people have commitments and need to sleep. Sometimes it's the only way to get things accomplished. If you don't like it, complain to the CC. You'll learn quickly that I hold very little regard for the opinions of others towards me.

well, safe to say I was not rich from the startLee wroteCOLONThe best way to get rich is to already be rich.
when I inherited my crappy team, it was a bottom team without its 1st rounder.CasperX22 wroteCOLONHappens when people just trade him all their 1sts
Since I made the playoff every year, first one I joined included, I didn't have any high pick in the following years either:
no 1st in 2010, #20 in 2011, no 1st in 2012, #21 in 2013.
I didn't have any high 1st until I had built the value on my roster to afford trading for such picks.
2015 has been the 1st year I finally had a top 10 pick.
Last year has been the first one I had a top 7 pick, and I paid through the nose to get it: http://bbkl.ca/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=133 ... ki#p243732
so I wouldn't say people have been 'just trading me all their 1sts'

Re: 2017 Draft Discussion
You talk about the sleep time but we're lucky to have some people in lots of different time zones so this collective place rarely sleeps. Someone is up somewhere around the BBKL world. It's cool to wake up in the morning and see some late night dealing or see some new draft picks being made.
I'm not mad at anyone who takes their time...I hope you have a good reason...but don't do it to grandstand or be a jerk. There's 30 of us here so be considerate of others if you can.
While we had to wait for Mik...I at least appreciated him giving an update of what was going on. Again, be considerate to your fellow GMs.
