I have enough depth to survive, I'll just suffer stats wise having to play Hartnell/Sedlak/Quincey/Ouellet instead of Berglund and Zajac

Yeah, big difference between a guy being out for the season and a guy being out "for a while". You'll get those guys back eventually. If you can tread water and get those other guys back and they can perform...you'll be in a good spot for the stretch run. It's the old cliché of getting a guy back from injury is sometimes just as good as a deadline acquisition.

Nah he probably won't, but one one hand he could join SKA St Peterburg and win a Gagarin Cup and return to the NHL as a UFA. Or on the other hand he could play for the Red Wings who are going to suck for the next few years. Not as obvious a choice as it could be.
