not sure what Pettersson did to deserve a callup.. especially when Vatanen was dealt because they were stacked on D, it's not like they need to fill a void. They still have 4 right-handed defensemen in Manson, Bieksa, Montour and Holzer.

And personally I'd expect Severson's icetime to go down, but we'll see about that

He is 3 years younger and is out producing him by almost every measurable metric. Sami PKs and that's about all he has over Severson.

Severson is currently 23 so it's not fair to compare full season stats to 23 games.

Nice way to put it. The only thing one may want to remember though is that severson was also on a team that needed to use him a lot more. Vatanen didn't necessarily get the same opportunities given how many dmen Anaheim has/had.

by the same token, Severson was put in more high pressure situations while Vatanen was more sheltered.

All I saw with those comparisons was better numbers for vatanen? That's not even including the PK and other periphs vatanen has on Severson.

Matthew is also right with regards to the ice time Severson saw.

It's not a slight on Severson but vatanen is the better player...

He's coming off shoulder surgery too iirc so this years numbers are most definitely not going to be in his favour
