Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
If we're not following the rules and giving a free pass then in essence I'm getting screwed by not receiving what the rules state I should get. Whether that comes from CHI or compensatory picks from the league is up to the CC, but all I continue to ask for is what the rules state I should receive.Sensfanjosh wroteCOLONYou're not being screwed you just aren't being rewarded for happening to have a pick that didn't meet gp and isnt being punished due to unique circumstancesfoofnik wroteCOLONWhy should I get screwed then? If the pick moves back then I get compensation, which would seemingly be from the league and not from CHI.Sensfanjosh wroteCOLONWhile this is a bit of a unique scenario given the GM quit mid-season I think it does make sense to have the pick pushed back since it really isn't fair to KapG to have met the GP minimums and for the pick not to have thus providing bonus value to SJS for no reason. If SJS wins the lottery with a pick that didn't meet GP minimums that doesn't seem right, and it doesn't seem right to have KapG lose value after having followed all the rules. Don't punish CHI, don't punish NYR, and don't reward SJS, everyone should get a fair shake and be happy with that.
Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
hawks should get a pass because he’s new. Pick should be moved back because GP was still missed. Foof should get compensatory picks from the league because of the fact that hawks is getting the pass on payment of compensation
That’s how I see it at least. I went out of my way to acquire players so that I would make the GP minimums.
Sure you can win the lottery from any position, but the sample size is still small. I’d much rather have the 50% chance at staying in the top 3 than having the 30% chance,

Washington's spot is 28 and Nashville's is 29...Mik owns both first round picks so he hold the 28th and 29th overall picks.Shoalzie wroteCOLON16. Nashville (from PIT via CGY)

The BBKL champ gets the 31st pick while the runner-up to gets the 30th. Josh (CGY) owns the Buffalo pick while Hong owns the Kings pick.

Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
It's not like your team doesn't have a bright future...you'll break through soon. The young players coming out of their ELCs will be a challenge but you've always done well with replacing big contracts with other young players. You never seem to have a shortage of prospects and youth.
I think we saw Will jump up to the elite level with the likes of Steve, Matt, Mike, Mik, Hong and Thom. I think there's a half dozen perennial contenders out there and it's up to the rest of the league to make up ground and try to knock them off. There's probably 2/3 of the league that realistically can be playoff teams and flirt with making a long run in the playoffs.
I think it all depends on if you want to push all your chips to the middle and add to your team at the cost of some futures or play it more conservatively and hope you make it to the top of the league organically. I think you can do it either way. Will waited a couple years before making some aggressive trades and he's vaulted up to the top tier of the league. You almost need to stockpile futures before you want to make that big jump.
For the teams that held high picks and traded them away for several pieces...those are the trades that really determine if you can move up in the league or not. Will has succeeded in moving on from his McDavid trade. I made my big trade with Mike for Matthews and I think I've pushed towards being a threat at making the playoffs for the near future. I'll be curious to see what happens this year with Dahlen.

Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
in my case, making a couple of aggressive trades at the deadline in past years (that have turned out to be complete disasters) to give me a better chance when my team was not anyway among the top 3 or 4 contenders yet is probably what has prevented me from winning so far. If I kept Trocheck I would have probably have at least 1 title now.Shoalzie wroteCOLONI think it all depends on if you want to push all your chips to the middle and add to your team at the cost of some futures or play it more conservatively and hope you make it to the top of the league organically. Personally I don't think Casper will move him anytime soon.I'll be curious to see what happens this year with Dahlen.

Did we ever finalize our order and whatnot here?
Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
Not yet as far as I know
I still feel very strongly about everything I said in this thread. I’ve essentially been penalized for shiv leaving the league lol
