He's a defensive center that is more or less ready to be in the NHL. LOLHF, but a lot of fans are penciling him in for 4th line duties next year, if not one of the first call ups.

hard to see a turnover machine as a safe defenseman though

I've seen him discussed both ways Mik, was on the fence about him for awhile.

are you saying I shouldn't use hockeydb as the end all, be all? should I stop exclusively using lists to draft too?

The point was mostly to show that HockeyDB only gives offensive statistical information and no insight into the actual player. If you look at his offensive numbers on hockeydb, yeah I can see why you would think he is not a good player.

You must actually go to a players game to be able to scout them properly. Watching video and forming your opinion on that is not enough.

100% agree. can't see the complete game without being there.

in the context of MacInnis, 2 years ago he was atrocious. he bounced back this year and I actually think he was better on offense than the raw stats suggest. defensively he was close to being back to what was expected before he started in Tucson. I just think he's going to have a hard time cracking that line-up at C

Yup, that is fair criticism.

Watching games only clouds my judgment. Too many biases towards things which don't necessarily matter. Very difficult to notice who is driving the play and avoid focusing on the flashy end results.

Yeah, I am not a scout and I doubt many if any of us here are at a professional level. In regards to the Ginning pick, he was at the top of all of my resources that I've collected over the year. His numbers don't back it, but if all these sources are telling me he is a good one, who am I to argue? I was trying to trade for a pick to select him due to him being the consensus BPA, not because I watched him closely all year and have dinner with his grandma so I know he's a good kid.

I coach Midget AAA and had my fair share of discussions with OHL scouts. They are all geniuses and can tell you little Johnny is good as he scores 100 goals. Weeding out the average from the slightly above average is difficult to do with the eye.

Yeah, not everything a prospect does in quantifiable on a spreadsheet. A big part of scouting seems to be "hey, this prospect did this one thing this one time that caught my eye, he could be a good one", especially for euro prospects that dont get as much exposure.

You're welcome to trade for him. I'm in a generous mood.
