I don't really understand trading away DD for OEL and losing your 1st round pick in the process.

Edit. 1st, 2nd, and downgraded 4th in the process. I'm not even sure what you're trying to accomplish at this point Scott.

Definitely got some more depth. Carter’s value dropping for sure, but I’m with Casper. Given the potential high end lottery, moving your first and the second is easily enough for OEL. And then carter and a 4th for Gusev? Don’t love it. I don’t mind OEL for DD swap given the better contract and younger age (though drop in stats). But I don’t like losing the 1st in the process.

Looks like the Wings are looking to really shake up this team. But giving away a guaranteed lottery pick in this deal makes little to no sense at all.

Good thing Kyuss doesn`t care about winning a 'ship - just acquiring lottery picks.

Didn't chime in yesterday, but ya after seeing the result of the three trades I'm not sure what the direction is. Wasn't a fan of the Doughty trade since I didn't get the 2nd added with Doughty and then Sergachev trade has a ton of risk since Niku needs to be a good BBKLer for it to have any chance of being fair. I could kind of rationalize those two trades as adding more assets, but then trading the 1st I think is pretty hard to defend based on the return. 100% the right move to trade Carter, but I'd be trying to get whatever I can get without adding a top 10 pick and another 2nd.

I like that Shoalzie isn't just sitting back and is trying to make deals since this has been sorely missed in this league the last little while, but at the end of the day I'm not sure how much better his team is without Doughty, Carter and Sergachev since depth is improved, but giving up 2021 1st + 2nd to improve depth is a very steep price IMO.

What I don't get is the Sergachyov deal.

Scott could have got OEL and Gusev without losing his 1st, in fact some time ago I proposed OEL + Gusev X Carter + Sergachyov, and the offer was still on the table.

That means Scott chose Niku + Fischer + MTL 3rd over DET 1st + CGY 2nd + DET 4th.

That said, speaking of this particular deal, going from Carter to OEL + Gusev should make tons of difference for Scott's team in the future. Despite his current lack of production, moving forward OEL is supposed to be the best BBKL piece involved in Scott's last 3 deals (Doughty makes 3M more..) and Gusev is too good on the PP not to produce offensive numbers.

It seems clear Scott is betting on his 1st 2021 not ending up to be a top 10 pick
