Hoping the cap goes up a lot like they are projecting. It would be good for the Leafs and fun for fantasy hockey.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
A matter of perception. I'm sure many think it would be fun if the cap did not go up at all and the poorer of us were able to reek the spoils of sinking ships.Bruyns wroteCOLONHoping the cap goes up a lot like they are projecting. It would be good for the Leafs and fun for fantasy hockey.

Yah I’d be fine with no cap increase lolMatthew wroteCOLONA matter of perception. Cap increases are bad for rebuilds. Ugh.

No matter if you're at the top or the bottom, you can't really stand pat year-over-year. Between the cap and waiver status, teams can't sit on the same roster every single year.
Mark, I see your roster and it looks some of your dead money contracts are expiring (Franzen and McArthur) and you have a lot of UFAs. The amount of moves you'll have to make will depend on if a lot of your pending UFAs get new contracts.

Yup - will likely be a very active off-season for me.Shoalzie wroteCOLONNo matter if you're at the top or the bottom, you can't really stand pat year-over-year. Between the cap and waiver status, teams can't sit on the same roster every single year.

If it goes to 88, I wouldn't have to shed any cap.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Radim Simek signed by SJ to a 9-million contract, locked up for the next 4 yrs despite the devastating knee injury he suffered late last season.
Funny timing for his first long-term contract, as just a few days ago during BBKL deadline negotiations I was told by a couple of GMs they were not confident he would stay in the NHL beyond this season.

Nice, Josh Archibald signed a 2-year extension with the Oilers. Bounced around a few teams but he's found a niche as a speed periph winger. He's been a good fit in Edmonton.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I for one wouldn't mind the cap going up...Schneider is making me want to carry 3 goalies next year.
In general, I think teams in our league can get by with two backups because those guys get enough action. Go back 10 years to guys like Brodeur/Kiprusoff/Lundqvist/Quick playing 70+ games...you couldn't survive with just two backups.
Price has started 57 of 69 games...that projects to 67 or 68 starts. There doesn't seem to be a lot of starters trending towards 60+ starts. Seems like the teams grinding to stay in the playoff chase will use their starter a lot more. Hellebuyck is also in the high usage category because he's been one of the guys keeping that team alive.

So much for kotkaniemi developing with time in the AHL:

Out for the remainder of the season.

What a surprise. They fucked up Kotka by bringing him to the NHL too early. Just like I said they would.
