Blandisi tips this in billy's favour.

Trade probably largely depends on the contract Hall is given.

I could see 7M on the Avs as a best case scenario.

I think this is super cheap, Hall was a hart winner two seasons ago and 7th highest ranked W on Fantrax. Hes only 28 like Billy said so not like hes done. I expected a much bigger market for him to be honest and Benning is a decent everyday Dman too. Hoping for a lottery pick obviously but it's a trade I had to make for cap space since no one was giving me anything of value for Niskanen and I'm stacked on the wings.

True story...not an age thing with Hall, more about contract. Move out players when they price themselves out of your budget.

Matt really had a nice situation with going with MacKinnon, Marchand and Hall all having very affordable contracts. MacKinnon is criminally underpaid in terms of star players across the league...makes practically half of McDavid's salary. If Svechnikov is going to be a star on the rise, he's got one more year before he gets paid. Aho got a nice pay increase off his ELC but you can thank Bergevin for that.

Too early to judge this deal until we see where Hall signs and where does Billy's pick end up in the 2022 draft.

In the Atlantic pecking order...Buffalo/Toronto/Tampa are the top tier with Florida in a solid spot to always compete for a playoff spot. I think Billy and I are in that next tier down where we want to compete but are just as likely to be in the lottery. Montreal and Boston are in rebuild mode at the bottom.

Hall is 28. That's a big difference in hockey years. I suspect he has 5 really good years left in his game.

In dynasty leagues like this, I'm always fascinated in how players perform at different ages/stages of their career. I think "older" players get a bad rap but I also think the other factor in play is that they're likely on a contract with an inflated salary so their value takes a hit, fairly or not.

I get a feeling that many teams in this league turn their nose up at players over the age of 25 or 26 but it's not like players near or over 30 can't give you numbers. This season, 8 players 30-and-over were in the top 25 in scoring. 10 players 25-and-under were in the top 25. The leaves 7 players in the over-25 and under-30 group, which Hall would be in.

In the end, you have to judge a player individually and not just look at their age and think they've got X-number of years left. If he signs somewhere for a decent price and perform well, he can still have good value in a format like this as he approaches 30. Some player's production meter runs longer than others. Hell, Ovechkin is coming up on 35 and is still a top 5 goal scorer in the league.

Too hard to recoup assets with old players which is why people stay away from them especially when GMs aren’t asset rich

This trade makes no sense to me from Ottawa perspective but what do I know lol

he's been doing this the last 3 years on purpose lol
why do u think he say that "draft schmaft" thing, as if he can make it work or something lol.
he doesn't intend on taking the proper/right way to recover his team
he wants to act as a farm dump for contending friends over and over and over again until the team is run to the ground basically.

Stuck In The Past,

Old memories, old actions, old regrets,
It seems someone never forgets,
They seem to return over and over again,
When will they disappear,
when when when...

Why are the details so important,
They aren't even related to us,
Do they really have to add up,
or have to be continuous?

Feels like being stuck in the past,
am curious to how long it will last,
It eats away the present o so fast,
that even our future will become the past.

Well, that's assuming a player taken with either pick that he traded is going to better than Taylor Hall at any point of his career...let alone now. The picks are a wild card in this trade.

If you're trying to compete, it's almost a given that you're going to acquire players that won't have good "resale value". Buying veteran players via trade is a lot like the UFA market in the NHL...you're probably overpaying for past performance but you're still hoping to get good productivity but the player is likely past their prime years.
