BBKL Week 5

Power, beniers, clarke, Hughes, eklund, lambo and a few more in the top 10...could be some outstanding players in there. This is why if you’re a team simply striving to be a borderline playoff team, you probably shouldnt trade your 1st. Too much shit can go wrong. have seen too many of my picks end up in way too good of a draft slot when I’d trade them to “try and make the playoffs”. That said, with COVID this is kind of a fucked up year.

Re: BBKL Week 5
What makes a bad draft? If every draft had a "generational talent", then would the term "generational talent" lose its meaning?
In the end, the goal is to find future NHL talent. Some drafts are more hit or miss with top prospects but that's just going off speculation and projections of scouts and draft experts. It's not an exact science. There's always risk involved when you're investing in a young unproven talent.

So yeah. Who exactly are we supposed to be excited about in that grouping? This is the most uninspiring group of prospects projected to go at the top of the draft in recent memory.KapG wroteCOLONIdk manJordan (VGK) wroteCOLONIf there is a year to not own your 1st it's this one. I don’t expect you to be excited about anything. You seem like a pretty negative person most of the timeCasperX22 wroteCOLONSo yeah. Who exactly are we supposed to be excited about in that grouping? Now, just because there isn’t a “generational” talent at the top doesn’t mean there isn’t going to be amazing players taken there. Smh
Power could turn out to be a beast, Hughes as well. Clarke could be a stud, beniers could be one hell of a bbkl player.....
Looking like teams may get another year to evaluate that 2021 class too which is a huge plus from a developmental standpoint.

Re: BBKL Week 5
There’s a bunch of good players, but the draft is about targeting guys with star potential that are expensive to acquire otherwise. A lot of the top end of the class projects to be middle 6, top 4 type which is good, but not ideal to use a top end pick on because you could acquire that type for cheaper. Of course not every pick hits their potential, but it seems this years class potential is limited and the upside is lower than normal.KapG wroteCOLONIdk manJordan (VGK) wroteCOLONIf there is a year to not own your 1st it's this one. And with limited viewings, really only the US players and euros to an extent have been able to showcase anything. For all we know there are some Canadian risers out there that could blow the top off of this draft. Very unique draft year, which is why I hope they defer to 2022 or find a way to merge both together and just push back the draft a whole year (would be my preferred situation) and continue with an older draft age group (19).Jordan (VGK) wroteCOLONThere’s a bunch of good players, but the draft is about targeting guys with star potential that are expensive to acquire otherwise. Re: BBKL Week 5
They aren’t going to merge the two drafts together lol
I could see them postponing 2021 draft, but that’s about it.

Re: BBKL Week 5
There is plenty of support to increase the draft eligible age to 19. This would be the time to do it if that were to happen. Is it likely? Probably not. Would it be difficult and likely very weird? Absolutely. But, now would be the time.KapG wroteCOLONThey aren’t going to merge the two drafts together lol

Teams who suck at drafting would surely love to see the draft age pushed back to 19. I for one think it’s silly.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONThere is plenty of support to increase the draft eligible age to 19. Re: BBKL Week 5
No way the PA approves delaying the draft & denying an opportunity for a future member to play in D+1. Even if I don’t think anyone is NHL ready, I can’t imagine the PA approving that.

Of course! It means they keep their star players for longer. All the junior leagues are gate driven so it would obviously be in their best interestDa_Hawks wroteCOLONI'm betting the junior leagues would love to see that happen.KapG wroteCOLONTeams who suck at drafting would surely love to see the draft age pushed back to 19. Re: BBKL Week 5
Every team sucks at drafting until they hit it good, then they are experts. There aren't that many teams who have shown the ability to stay competitive forever, not in the cap era anyways.kyuss wroteCOLONthis.KapG wroteCOLONTeams who suck at drafting would surely love to see the draft age pushed back to 19. Re: BBKL Week 5
Imagine someone like Byfield not being eligible until 2022 under a dumb rule like that.

There aren’t a lot of them but there are some. Re: BBKL Week 5
Yes, but prior to that, Tampa was a really good team, then a really bad team. They've shown great success recently, but will that last when they are bleeding youth and draft capital left and right in order to win? You cannot sustain a winning environment forever anymore. The NHL will remain very cyclical given the hard cap.
