Scheiffle Hit
Scheiffle Hit
clean or dirty?
When I first saw it I thought it was a late, needless terrible hit, but after watching it a few times I'm not so sure.

Re: Scheiffle Hit
Clean hit for me, shoulder to chest was the pre dominant point of contact. I'm sure they will give him something though as it fits into definition of charging.

Re: Scheiffle Hit
It's a stupid play but not necessarily dirty. Definitely a charge
Re: Scheiffle Hit
Evans should have been paying more attention when coming out from behind the net. Don't even think that counts as charging cuz scheifele was gliding like the last 10 feet. Just a nice hit where Evans got mangled.

except, he coasted the last 20 feet, so IS IT charging?Sensfanjosh wroteCOLONIt's a stupid play but not necessarily dirty. Definitely a charge

Re: Scheiffle Hit
I dont think it matters if you're coasting its distance traveled leading to a violent hit
Re: Scheiffle Hit
Will probably be a 1 game suspension just because he hit Evans in a vulnerable position. Then again, Evans should have been paying attention - but was too focused on getting the goal - rookie mistake IMO.
Tough call - I want these plays to continue to exist in the NHL. If we remove all the big hits and rough play, then we just end up with a shitty product to watch.
Also, anyone else find it stupid that the whole in-person vs telephone call dictates the lenght of suspension? It`s 2021 - technology should not dictate the term. Have a zoom call for every infraction, go over the hit, discuss with the player and then make a decision. The NHL is so dumb sometimes.

Completely disagree, I love hitting but that isn't a play that has a place in hockey, super predatory and completely unnecessary

Re: Scheiffle Hit
clean hit, but unsportsman and should be fined.
Re: Scheiffle Hit
That play has been part of hockey since forever. Evans should have kept his head up, taken a peek to see who was coming and prepared for the hit. He was not engaged with anyone else to prevent him from properly taking that hit. It was a rookie mistake and he got crushed for it.Sensfanjosh wroteCOLONCompletely disagree, I love hitting but that isn't a play that has a place in hockey, super predatory and completely unnecessary
Did MS have to make the hit? No.
Should he not have? Never turn down the opportunity to clock your opponent in the playoffs.

Re: Scheiffle Hit
Dirty hits usually has some bad intent attached to them. His intent wasn't hunt him down...he was making a desperate attempt to prevent a goal. It was a rough hit but I don't consider it dirty. He had to book it to get there to stop Evans. The contact and the way Evans fell makes it look worse. It was a regular hockey play that was a bit on the reckless side given how fast he was moving.

Rule 42.1: Charging shall mean that the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check and opponent in any manner. A "charge" may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice.
Definitely Charging, although I didn't mind it

Re: Scheiffle Hit
Was a predatory hit. If anyone watched the game you could see the habs targetting him with jabs and facewashes through the game and Scheifle was getting progressively angrier. Anyone thats ever played hockey, hell a sport can tell you what he was thinking on that play - no time for a stick check so im just gonna lay him out. Yes Evans should have had his head up BUT he skated the length of the ice and hit a player in a vulnerable position. He could have pulled up and chose not to.
I do think the primary damage done wasnt the initial hit which is debatable if primary point was chest or head - it was when he landed almost head first on the ice that i believe injured him the most. And that can be directly attributed to the speed at which Scheifle was going through the check at.
Stuff like this had no place in hockey and a message should be sent. He should get 5 games to send a message. But we all know NHL has one set of rules for scrubs and another for stars. Hell get two games at most - more likely 1. He better step up to the Code when he gets back , star or no.
This kind of stuff can have reprecussions over a players entire career! What if roles were reversed and Evans had hit Scheifle like that and was his career at risk? Everyone would be screaming for Evans' head for taking out a star in that manner. Its because Evans is a 4th line C being hit by a star that alot of people are making excuses for Scheifle.
The hit was completely unnecessary. I had mad respect for Scheifle. That respect is gone.

I watched the game and was disgusted by the hit and i'm a leaf fan. That said, i dont think it was 'dirty' it was just unnecessary and it deserves a fine or suspension.
Re: Scheiffle Hit
The level of outrage is at different levels. Habs fans are livid (from my interactions with them) and wanting MS gone for the series, and Leafs fans are just laughing at them and defending the hit, or as you said - being a little more non-chalant and saying, sure a game or two (or none). The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONWhy?Da_Hawks wroteCOLONYou can tell who the Montreal fans are, and who the Leafs fans are in here hahaha

Re: Scheiffle Hit
Yeah I'm more of this thinking, it was an unnecessary and imo predatory play not dirty because it's a sort of gray area rule wise but definitely deserves something. Reminds me a lot of the plays that basically ended Eaves and Mccamonds careersThe BBKL Insider wroteCOLONWhy?Da_Hawks wroteCOLONYou can tell who the Montreal fans are, and who the Leafs fans are in here hahaha

It's a flat out dirty play. Completely unnecessary and definitely a charge.
Re: Scheiffle Hit
He got 4 games btw, more than I was expecting because the DOPS sucks, but good by their standards
