I get value for a productive but aging out player and Matthew gets another useful center to help him this year. The way he's going...no guarantees that he retires. He's always been a player I've respected.

I got mixed reviews for the Malkin deal last year but considering how things have gone for him since the beginning of last year...it would've been very difficult to move him if I hung onto him another year. I got Getzlaf in the deal and I lucked out that he played another year and at a cheaper salary and he's played well enough to allow me to recoup some solid value.

Had some cap room, and FOW was a category I couldn't compete with a guy like Fraser given I had only 3 Centers. Regardless of whether getz manages to keep up the offensive pace, 14 Fow/game is a big + for me.
