Fantrax & Google Sheets (Re: Weekly Lineups)

Post by Shoalzie »

I just want to make sure everyone fully understands this particular part of the new sheet design and how it benefits you. I fully acknowledge that having Google sheets and using Fantrax is a redundancy but Fantrax can only do so much for us. It can't track everything that we need to know.

In recent years, I implemented an option to reuse your previous week's lineup that you entered in your sheet. It was meant to be a shortcut so you don't have to go through the act of re-entering the exact same names on your sheet from the week before when you didn't make a roster move and you had no plans in using different players.

The downside was that if anyone didn't fill out their weekly sheets, there was no way to monitor or confirm the lineup used in Fantrax was actually legal. The entire point of the Google sheet is a way to validate your lineup. Filling out your lineup in Google isn't meant to be a requirement but having a legal lineup is.

To best explain this new checkbox option, I'm collecting a weekly report from Fantrax detailing the current rosters and how everyone has filled out their lineups.

https://www.fantrax.com/fantasy/league/ ... =ALL_TAKEN

If a player is in your lineup, they'll be "Active". If they're one of your 3 scratches, they'll be "Reserve". If they're assigned to injured reserve, they'll be "Inj Res".

To simply use the information I've collected from Fantrax which is the lineup you have entered into Fantrax, check the box at the top of your weekly sheet to populate your sheet with your current Fantrax lineup.

http://bbkl.ca/viewtopic.php?p=323163#p323163

At a bare minimum with your Google sheet, you can check that box and you'll have the Fantrax information populate your sheet. And that's even if you use a different Fantrax lineup from the previous week.

If you still wish to fill out your Google lineup, the Fantrax lineup is still integrated to your sheet where your lineups must match. Meaning, the same players should appear on both Google and Fantrax as "Active", "Reserve" or "Inj Res".

The lineup you that enter in Google must match your Fantrax lineup and in turn that lineup must meet all our requirements for a legal lineup. If you use the checkbox, your Fantrax lineup is essentially Google lineup.

I also want to point this out...please make sure on Fantrax the players you assign to your 3 reserve spots and your injured reserve spots, those are signed players (currently under an NHL contract). I've also made sure that you can't enter more 3 reserves in your lineup in Fantrax like in previous years.

If you have any questions about how this works or if you have issues with your sheets, please ask away. I spent a lot of time this summer working on this to make sure everyone is using a legal lineup at all times.

No worries Kyle. If I had a little more time this summer, I would've got a checkbox version made as well. Quite a few of you used it last year so it was quite popular.

Question:

I submitted my roster.

Erik Gustafasson has signed since roster submission. Do I just recall him and waive the appropriate player as a Week 1 roster move?

I've noticed with some of you...you can't fill out your lineup manually and use the check box together. You have to do one or the other.

In the weekly sheets, those cells where you enter the player's name...it has a conditional formula where if you check the box, it'll populate with the Fantrax information. But if you type in a name, the formula goes away.

My advice...fill the lineup manually or do the checkbox at the top. Don't do both. If you need help, give me a shout.

I mentioned before that I grabbed the latest lineups from Fantrax this morning. If you're satisfied with your Week 1 lineup on Fantrax, check the box and the lineup will populate.

If we make moves on Fantrax, how soon after will the google sheets be accurate with the checkbox method? I asl because I put Connauton on the IR and it took a couple of days before he got into the sheets.

I'll do an update tonight after puck drop for the opening game. If you guys want to use your Fantrax lineup as is, just check the box and the information will update when I grab the new report.

I'll try to do updates in between the roster deadlines. This next report I grab, that will be the final lineups for Week 1. I'll also use those for the initial lineups for Week 2. I'll probably do an update every couple days.

Obviously, if you don't make a change to your Fantrax lineup week over week, your lineup won't change. Check the box and information will be there.

Some of you are utilizing the fact that your Fantrax lineup can essentially be used on your sheets, which is completely fine. You need to understand that Fantrax only has the "Inj Res" designation and not an LTIR designation so there is one bit of work that needs to be done on your sheet. You do need to keep in mind that if you have a player on LTIR, you still need to check the box on your sheet next to the injured player to enable them as LTIR. Otherwise, your team will likely be over the cap.

Also, please post anything related to IR and LTIR during the season. It doesn't take a lot of effort to keep the rest of us aware.

Not everything was populating with the current Week 7 list. The names weren't showing up...that's kind of a big detail.

Just a general note...I spent parts of the last week going back and correcting the cap and AAV for players who are currently on their entry level deals. I missed updating all sliding contracts from the previous season. There were a fair number players who's numbers have gone down so you'll probably notice if one or more of those players that are in your lineup, that you will have a tad bit more in the way of cap room.

I made myself an automated message of which players based on age and GP that I should monitor for next offseason so I'll get in front of this sooner. The "slide candidate" status on CapFriendly is something I always like to keep an eye on.
