Oh, I'd love Zetterberg on my team. I'd love to have Toews, Crosby, Backes, etc. on my team as well. But I think certain moves aren't always the smart move - it's putting the cart before the horse for a rebuilding team. Zetterberg would serve a contender better than a rebuilding one.

By the way, love the make-up of your team from top to bottom. Let me know if you ever want to talk shop.

I guess everyone has preference and maybe I am just being overly aggressive in my views and what i deem important. Is 6 million for a guy like that top dollar though? With the cap raises from now and going forward? Not you in particular, but i find a lot of GM's in this league are so obsessed with youth and prospects and trading that it becomes an actual deterrent in there progress moving forward. There is no middle class in this league. You have the rebuilders or youth obsessed teams and you have the win now teams. A lot of the Win-now teams have figured out how to take advantage of the youth and prospect/pick obsessed GM's. i am not as knowledgeable about prospects and I am a what have you done for me lately kind of guy. I pay for proven success and gamble a bit on upside but not like many other people in here. Not saying that is right or wrong, just how i do it. I just find it absolutely amazing at how many people actually stay away from players at the age of 30 and over for that simple reason, age. That is irregardless of who they are or what they have proven to be able to do. I can understand your opposition because you have a playoff team and cap is an issue moving forward. I mean if people in here are working on 10 year plans, thats news to me..lol

I would be curious to know the actual average age of stat production decline in the NHL? stat guys? any ideas...lol

I too would like Toews and Backes. I agree with your opinion about rebuilding but i was taking that same sentiment and observing that way too many teams have it in this league and it has skewed the value of players, prospects and picks. In a 30 team league as deep as this it is bound to happen that unbalance will occur when you have 15-17 teams saying they are rebuilding, 10 wanting to win it all and have the rosters to do it, and say 3-5 who are kinda like the Toronto Maple Leafs and are middle class team who like to finish 9th-11th in the conference But seriously do you see what I am saying. There is supposed to be a balance of age/experience throughout the league and we have become very bottom heavy with so many rebuilding teams demanding youth and picks for already proven NHL talent. If the majority of league has that same goal there are not enough of those types of players to go around and therefore there value goes up. All the while a few teams at the top are completely stacked and basically playing in a 10 man Yahoo league. (Exaggeration, obviously, but i think you understand what i mean)

But yea...my shop doors are always open. I am a PM kinda guy as my work has a tight leash on any other forms of social media.

Just to clear something up. When I meant paying top dollar I meant the assets I would have to give up. Zetterbergs cap hit is very reasonable and for me, cap hit is no issue as I am sitting at about 50ish for the start of the upcoming season with my full roster .

Now, about the whole rebuild/retool with youth thing versus adding solid ... older? players who are 30 and up I guess?...

I think you can be obsessed (I am for sure...Ill show you too) with youth and still be able to retool/rebuild your team while competing for the playoffs. It just takes acquiring the right players and a lot of patience.

When I took over the Rangers they were a playoff team with a top notch goalie in Lundy (29) and then guys like Ribeiro (30), Green (25), Dubinsky (24), Justin Williams (29), Nick Schultz (28), Gomez (32), Vrbata (29), Montador (32), Ott (28), Stempniak (28), Holmstrom (38), Sturm (33), MDZ (21). Alot of those guys are getting up there in age but can still play. Unfortunately, although my team was a playoff team I had zilch in the prospect department.

Now that I think about it, I think Chris (Vancouver) and I came into this league in similar situations. Taking over playoff teams that were never going to win anything (no offense meant to the previous GM's of our teams!!) and didn't really have any prospects who could take our teams to the next level.

Now after my retool (which is pretty much 100% done after taking a full year...although I kind of wish it wasn't because I get the itch watching all these trades happen lol) I have brought in guys like Kovalchuk (28), Vanek (27), Mcbain (23), Gustafsson (22), Michalek (28), Bozak (25), Burmistrov (19), Palmieri (22), Abdelkader (24), Steen (27), Tootoo (28), Sobotka (24), Jay Harrison (28) and Jonathon Bernier (23), Brian Rolston (38), Kipper (34). I also have developed a pretty good prospect pool (I like to think lol) with Carl Klingberg, Mark Scheifele, David Savard, Kevin Marshall, Rhett Rhakshani, Ryan Sproul, Vladimir Zharkov.

You can see that I am pretty much youth obsessed minus Rolston (cap filler until next year when about 6 or 7 of my guys come off their ELCs) and Kipper (who is just a stop gap until Bernier gets a spot somewhere *knock on wood*) but I think I have been able to be this way while still retooling my team into an even stronger squad.

Although we have never really talked trade Kyle, I can assure you that I am one of the more picky GMs when it comes to letting go of and acquiring players lol. They've gotta be young, on teams I like (for the most part) and lastly and just as important as them being young, I have to like them from a fan PoV lol.

Fuck, I love this league so much. Reminds me of the stock market now, and going back into my early teen days, it reminds me of all the crazy trading I use to do on these MMORGs (like World of Warcraft...but before that game. Ascherons Call it was).
