Not at all, Christian was 5th in SHTOI/G on Vancouver, he got as much shtoi (total) as he did because of injuries. He was 5th in San Jose too, Ehrhoff is an offensive minded defenceman, if you think he is an elite pk'er you are looking to much into the shtoi stats, and not the games, or per game stats.

None of this is to mention that Buffalo runs one of the best pk units every year since the lockout, and Ruff likes to lean on his top guys. The 4 players I mentioned above will be ahead of Ehrhoff, I didn't even mention Weber/Morrison who get a considerable amount of shtoi themselves.

Ehrhoff is going to be more of a ES/PP option than he has been in the past, book it.

Ehrhoff is signed long term making a very good salary. Ruff is going to count on him in all situations. I don't think Ehrhoff's going to be an "elite" PKer, I never said that.. but he's not going to be behind Sekera, and probably not behind Myers either. Regehr will get huge PK numbers but I feel Ehrhoff is still a lock for 130-140 SHTOI, which is exactly what I'm looking for, a SOLID amount. Lindy Ruff has always used all of his defenseman on the PK.. and IMHO, that's the way any coach should run his PK.

Jesus...Ehrhoff has been the 5th option on the pk (when everyone is healthy) all the way back too 2008. The fact that you think he will play ahead of Myers (the Sabres top pk man last season) and players like Sekera and Leopold really makes me question your reasoning for this trade. The on ice play AND stats state otherwise, and when that happens, the answer is almost always absolute.

Lindy Ruff has a top of options on D, when that happens, coaches tend to "specialize" roles so as to spread the minutes and get the most out of everyone. Obviously studs like Tyler Myers will be played in all situations, but there is only one of those per team, and Christian Ehrhoff is not that guy.

He's received the number of minutes he has on the PK because he's good at it. Myers isn't that good on the PK. He struggles with movement. Regher should get the most, followed by either Myers, Ehrhoff, Morrison, or Weber, and chances are, Ehrhoff will get at the very least, 2nd unit PK time as he has been the last couple of years.

Pretty clear to me that he's valued as a top-four type of defenseman on the PK. Interestingly enough, the year he finished 5th in 2008-09 was riddled with underwhelming play, leading to his trade to the Canucks. He's definitely considered a second-unit defenseman.

Yet, when it comes down to it, the last time Ehrhoff played less than 2 minutes of SHTOI per game was when we was struggling in 2008-09. And you think Sekera and Morrison are going to get more than Ehrhoff? Hilarious.
