Jonas Gustavsson is a below average goaltender, and he should be hearing it from the fans. We have better options internally, IMO.

Nick's above example is a small sample size, and does not count Reimers best start, or Jonas worst start. Over this season, Reimer has been league average, Jonas has been well below it, over their careers Reimer has been above average, and Jonas well below. Until Jonas Guatavsson learns to control his rebounds, and not overplay the puck, he will continue to be deplorable, IMHO.

I would agree that Gus is a below average Starting Goalie. But there is NO WAY he is a below average Backup.

I'd wager he is an average starting backup, which is fine when Reimer is healthy, but with Reims out of the lineup I'd rather see what Scrivens can do personally.

The Monster remind me of Toskola and I bet Tos will end up with a better career. LOL!! There both Butterfly goaltender. At the moment Monster started good but i bet he will finish is career like Toskola did in flame. I would love if Gus could use is complete size better.

Wow you guys are forgetting right now we are 7-3-1, second in the east!!! Don't he so harsh on the leafs goalies they are playing just fine! Riemers gaa is 9.12 and is 4-0-1 seems great to me and forget Gus is just a back up and he's been great at times and shitty at times... Sounds like most backup goalies in the league!

Be careful what you guys wish for it can be a lot worse!

Also had some pretty good years.

Not really, but he did have some of the worst seasons for an NHL starting goaltender.

After tonight's performance I don't ever want to hear another person defend Jonas Gustavsson. Ben Scrivens faced just as hard shots as Gustavsson, if not tougher, and made it look easy. Gustavsson by comparison makes it look difficult, that my friends is the difference good goaltending makes. Hopefully the politics of the position don't come into play, and Gustavsson is demoted like he should have been a long time ago.

Won't happen.
Gus and Scrivens both stay till Reimer returns with whoever losing riding the bench. Reimer comes back and Scrivens goes down to the AHL. As HE SHOULD, if your a fan of Scrivens then you know the potential he has, I'd rather see him stopping pucks there than riding the pine as Reims plays here. Reimer himself went back down to the AHL after doing well in the NHL, Scrivens will have a similar fate and I'd rather he do that as well.

Hilarious the knee jerk reactions though, I thought a few games was too small a sample size? But apparently one game is enough? The leafs have great goaltending depth, and its a thing of fucking beauty.

On the topic of Scrivens, hes been great for a while, his skating is the best of any goalie in the Leafs system. Hes also got a calm demeanor, and great awareness. His ceiling maybe higher than Reimers, but if he gets there we'll have to see.

Gus and Rynnas play a very different style than Scrivens and Reimer, not all goalies move around as little and are as calm as the latter two. This doesn't however make them less effective at their position. As a fanbase we would of chased Tim Thomas out of town.

Thomas was almost chased out of town 2 years ago. Bruins fans were talking Thomas+ just to dump his salary.
