Heh. Yea. We should ignore the fact that Semin and Wideman are UFAs, Carlson and Green are gonna need a re-up and WSH borrowing against the upper limit.

Deep playoff runs can lead to GMs getting very creative. HFboards' style predicitions on an FA's status usually aren't true. If Vokoun performs in the playoffs (which odds are he will), he stays and gets a 3M-4M contract max, which he will be happy to sign and McPhee will make room for.
I'm not saying it won't happen, I'm just saying it's definitely a factor and Neuvirth and Vokoun are FAR from a lock to being that teams tandem going into next season.

All these things are manageable. You make it sound like the ceiling can't go up, or WSH can't structure a deal to keep people happy. It's simple: If Vokoun is solid in the playoffs, he is not going anywhere.

More deducing based on things that haven't happened yet. Meanwhile, the perpetual "I need more rape than Shiv does" Mr. Nashville holds Holtby, and no one wants the WSH system because of it. Prospect or not, the fact that Holtby is highly regarded among the scouting community, in addition to the fact that Vokuon is 35 years old and getting older, as well as the fact that the Capitals have been steadily promoting younger blood into the line-up signifies a shift towards a more youthful lineup.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but where exactly did you come to the conclusion that there's a near-certainty that Vokoun will perform in the playoffs with only 5 career games played in the hockey stuff that happens after the regular season?

Whoever doesn't want this tandem at 2.65 because someone else owns their 3rd string goalie is dumb lol.. this tandem can turn a mediocre team in to a very good team.

Vokoun is a top tier goalie who has never gotten a chance to play on this good of a team. He purposely took a paycut to play with the Caps. The Caps btw have a small window of maybe 3-4 years to win the cup. NO WAY will they waste even 1 year of that window relying on Holtby/Neuvirth. It makes NO sense. Especially when a goalie of Vokoun's stature is available to them.

Shiv explicitly stated "if" Vokoun performs well in the playoffs.

I read the second page first, hence the confusion. That said, would you really bet against Vokoun in the post season? I wouldn't...

Haha 3-4 year window? Based on what? You seriously think they're going to let two cost controlled goaltenders languish as back-ups or AHL starters? Smart asset management.

I would be shocked if he does well in the playoffs. Historically, individuals who have suffered from long stretches between playoff appearances -- or have never been -- haven't performed well. It was Mirtle or someone from Calgary (a Westerner) who did the fact-checking on it.

What? If you don't think the next 3-4 years is the PRIME time for the Caps to win the cup, you are crazy. And as to your second point, it's called a trade.

Holtby looked quite ready last year. Neuvirth is obviously ready now. A year or two down the road, you expect McPhee to not use cost controlled players to mitigate the prohibitive space taken up by salaries that Johansson, Eakin, and Carlson will demand?

in your opinion is Ennis + Saad too much to pay for the difference in net between WSH system and PIT system?

no way
i would never do that
whats the benefit of adding to change systems?
vokoun/neuvirth will be the tandem in WSH for 2-3 years anyway
and washington's tandem's stats in an h2h week are projected to be just as good as pittsburgh.
I'm sorry, but no.
I really would like to hear your rationale on this one.
Prediction: you two will fail to come to an agreement.
Creepy prescient bastard.
