the two conferences have become very tight, looking like the west might be catching up to the east in terms of quality and depth.

Does the west even equal the NE?

Yah, sorry steve, the East is still a pretty good distance ahead of the west in terms of quality of teams.

i'm not so sure, for example if you take a look at rankings in the East Vs. West i think any team equally matched could very easily make a close week with the team is the same position.

For example:

6. Boston Bruins vs. 6.SJ Sharks

or

3. Sens vs. 3.Blue Jackets


These are just two examples of positioning and quality in the two conferences.
