Looks like the Giroux/Kessel bet is off, that is too bad, they were having a really exciting go at it.

P.S. What is it with the NHL scoring leaders getting concussions? First Sid, and now Giroux.

Regardless of how you read what I wrote, It's a very old BBKL story -> if it's not a low ball, it should at least garner a ' no thx'.
maybe he considered your offer a lowballer? :) i mean, be that right or wrong.

Anyway, i can get your argument about his lack of replies, i just found funny what sounded to me like a "trade the guy or suck it up" sort of thing.

On top of that etiquette (which really wasn't the purpose of the message), BCool's had TONS of opportunity to move the injury risk that is Sidney Crosby, I do not feel sorry for any GM due to injuries, I've had to completely change my team due to injuries (as have others i'm sure); having one big piece risks one big injury, this one not unexpected or unknown, but even with the injuries it's not a loss BCool needs to endure
trading the player after the injury still means losing value..

anyway, no big deal really..

My bad karma has been uncharacteristically good this year...It' Nick who is cursing players left, right and center. I mean the kid only had Skinner for a couple of weeks, and then boom, first significant injury of his NHL career...

Speaking of the Connolly hit..

Prospect Austin Watson suffers his second concussion in 4 months

Brutal for such a promising prospect..

#1 in the world, Sidney Crosby = OUT
#1 scorer in the 2011-2012 season, Claude Giroux = OUT
#1 goal scorer in the 2011-2012 season, Milan Michalek = OUT
#1 cutest NHL, Jeff Skinner = OUT
and so many more... all concussions.. IMO main increase is proper diagnosis due to realization of long term effects of mis-treatment. Speed of the game no doubt an issue, also IMO some lack of personal awareness, which is shown by running into teammates (not applicable to all cases).

I disagree with the 'simple physics' argument... now it might change the game and through that hitting goes away...but that's a rather poor solution IMO, love the game, never a big fan of the big ice game.

Other things to look at -> neck brace system that controls change of direction motions of the head/helmet, as seen in downhill mountain biking, motorcycle race, and automotive racing -> clearly lots of adjustment needed, but the cause of these concussions is the head changing direction quickly causing the brian to move and impact the skull (remember it's suspended in a liquid).

-> return of the red-line is also a 'simple physics' solution, it'll decrease the functional space on the ice, slow guys from getting a head of speed.

-> Protocol about contract specifically with a player who is not on his feet, perhaps just an awareness situation.

Always good to talk about stuff like this.

Speed of the game.

3 of the most recent concussions are running into teammates. The game is so fast, you need to open it up and give players more room.

They'll be super hesitant of putting the redline back in fear of going back to boring hockey.

It is also worthwhile mentioning, that ever since the Crosby incident, these so-called "concussion-like symptoms" which reportedly shared in common by all of these players using Crosby's symptoms as a precedence, may in turn, NOT be a precursor to as severe a concussion Crosby has suffered. But because of the fact that Crosby has been out for so long due to this condition, everyone who also share the similar symptoms are being taken out as a precautionary measure.

Giroux/Skinner/Michalek all are showing this "symptom", but I highly doubt any of them will be out nearly as long as Crosby did because in sports medicine, same "symptom" can happen to any player even though the player did not suffer as hard a hit as Crosby did, or even suffer a head injury for that matter. I'm very curious and interested to know as to what this "concussion-like symptom" these players are suffering in common from.

Sid's wasnt't teammate, unless krecji's elbow is his teammate.

Giroux is just a fluke situation, not like their wasn't ice on either side of him.

MM was a puck pursuit...

But like i said, I disagree about the simple physics solution, it's a HUGE surface as it is, more then enough room for the bodies w/o contract, the contact is around this thing called the puck.

I agree big time Paul, as I was telling Kareem there is a difference from symptoms to diagnosis to treatment, and of course to injury/impact. Literally every concussion will be different because the hits themselves are different, and everyone's brains are different. We like to simplify things, but in doing so adding a ton of fallacies.
