Questions about Android

Post by armandtanzarian »

So i got a 10.1 inch Android 3.1 based Tab for Xmas. Totally new to this OS as i do not have the phone. Can any of you experts tell me what i need or what are the must have apps? What about security and web browser options? Any other pointers?

Mike knows a lot about Androids. I own a Motorola Droid/Milestone, so I'm pretty capable with Androids -- what exactly do you mean by security and web browser options?

Well on Tablet, do i need to have antivrus? Is it still considered basically a glorified phone OS or more similar to PC? I have been playing with using Dolphin browser and it seems ok but i am just curious if the stock browser on Android is indeed Chrome?

That's a good security question, Kyle. Myself, I'd rather avoid anti-virus programs due to performance issues and the fact that I know what I can and cannot download -- I'm very cautious about what I download. On the other hand, if you're new to this stuff, I recommend checking to see if Avast! (if they have one on the market for tablets) or AVG. The stock browser on the Tablet is not Chrome. It's likely just "Web Browser" so you'll need to figure out if it works for you. I recommend Dolphin or Opera Mini -- though I haven't used Opera Mini in awhile.

I use Opera mini on my BB. Dolphin seems to be quite fast and has some features the default browser on Tablet does not.

Dolphin is bar none the best browser for phones. Haven't come across a better browser for my Android (yet).

K folks. If you have Android phone or tablet or IPhone or IPad, you must get the game Drag Racing. So freaking addictive especially if you love cars.

It is like Angry Birds obsessive. There is an entire online community obsessed with fine tuning various cars to get .001 more seconds taken off of quarter mile and half mile race times. so amazing for a free game. Rated best free android game or one of top 3 Can't remember.

Thanks Kyle, just installed. I love the remote installer as I'd be way too lazy to turn on my phone and seek out a game.

Will let you know how I like it next time I poop.

I picked up a Kindle Fire -> put on a custom build of Android and am now using Dolphin and loving it. Thanks for the tip!
