DET Trading Block: Deadline Edition

Post by Shoalzie »

Team Status: 50 Contracts / 64 Players -- Cap Room: 11.655

I'm actively shopping these four players up until the BBKL trade deadline...

C Jay McClement (Age: 28 / Cap Hit: 1.450 / '12-13 Status: UFA)

He's right around or better than his numbers from last year. Only Max Talbot is ahead of him amongst all centers in SHTOI. He's done by a FOW or two per game but still takes and win plenty of draws. Offensively, he's nothing special (20-30 points) but he's around the same point output as last year but this year, he's scoring more goals than before.

Asking price: A more offensive-minded NHL center, prospects and/or picks

*Additional Comment: I may consider packaging him with James Sheppard for an upgrade at center

W Jiri Tlusty (Age: 23 / Cap Hit: 0.525 / '12-13 Status: RFA)

For several games, he's been playing with Staal and Ruutu on the Canes' top line. He's had a point in each of the last 4 games with a +6. He's also solid with hits, SHTOI and SOG. Teams have asked about him before but nothing that appealed to me all that much. He's finally showing upside so trading him isn't a necessity but he's got a good price tag on him now with the low cap hit and his current playing situation. Although he won't be next year, he is still waiver exempt for this season.

Asking price: A more established NHL forward, prospects and/or picks

D Sergei Gonchar (Age: 37 / Cap Hit: 5.500 / '12-13 Status: Signed)

Not what he used to be but still a steady veteran. Last year was a down year but he's rebounded in basically every category. His goal-scoring has continued to go down but he's turned more into an assist man. What's kind of remarkable, his numbers this year aren't all that far off from Nicklas Lidstrom. He's got a hefty cap hit but he does have another year on his current deal and his numbers improved from last year's disappointing season.

Asking price: A young, promising NHL defenseman and/or 1st round value in terms of prospects or picks

*Additional Comment: Given his cap hit, I can take some salary back but no empty contracts will be accepted

D Bryce Salvador (Age: 36 / Cap Hit: 2.900 / '12-13 Status: UFA)

An older player but he's rock solid across four categories. Only Josh Gorges can get you +/-, BS, PIM and SHTOI better than or near Salvador this year. I wouldn't be moving him if not for his age. He can certainly help a contender but he makes a little more than the typical veteran D.

Asking price: A younger defensive-minded NHL defenseman and/or picks
