Sometimes I wonder if even I underrate Phaneuf, you look at his minutes played, record against the best players in the league (especially against Boston last season), and you wonder if maybe he is in that elite top 7 class.

i do like Dion, he fustrates me at times, and i dont think for a second the leafs will let him walk.

Let's just say it would take a ludicrous demand to make me even consider not re-signing phaneuf.

If we're talking 7 years, which is the most likely scenario:

6.5 x 7 - im thrilled
7.0 x 7 - im happy
7.5 x 7 - im neutral
8.0 x 7 - disappointed, but still ok
8.5 x 7 - i'd seek a trade

One thing we can count on is no matter what contract he signs there will be other fan bases trumpeting how overpaid and overrated he is. Even some of our own fans think they should trade him or let him walk if he wants a raise.

Based on my viewing this year:

1. Weber
2. Suter
3. Keith
4. OEL
5. PieT
6. Chara (looks less-dominant to be this year)

7 -> where I see a group, Garrison (IMO totally excellent), Subban, Phaneuf, JJ, Kronwall, DD, Hedman -> not in list but mostly due to injury are some guys I haven't got to see much/any of, Letang,

safely top 15, but for importance to team he's higher than some on list, like Keith, Kronwall, Hedman & Letang.

Karlsson not top 15?

I dont know why grebs came back. He is terrible, doesnt belong in nhl.

I'm super happy I didn't acquire him via trade.

I think Karlsson, OEL and Weber are the three best dmen in the NHL.
