Why has downie now been traded 3 times? All I know is traded 3 times in his first 7 and a bit years while being an effective player, there has to be something behind the scenes. Maybe his complete piece of shit mentality on ice translates off of it. Who knows, I just think he has to be doing something to be traded this often.
I can't believe he went back to philly. Holmgren is just doing circles now lol.
He's a whackjob. I've played hockey with him before.
Weird that he's going back to Philly of all places though.

Speculation. Matt Duchene has been on the record saying how critical Downie is to the team. They just quoted it on the radio. However, your point may have some validity if he was pissing off Patrick Roy lol. I like the deal for Philly. Anything to inject some life into them can be good I guess.
as a giroux owner i hope downie plays on his wing & vice versa. IMO downie was awesome for the avs - i've loved his game and his BBKL stats so far this year.
Honestly a bit of a surprise to me. The fit seemed excellent in COL for Downie.
edit: I'd also add that IMO an emotionally invested player like Downie would appeal to a coach like Roy - who himself is fully invested and as a player laid it all out there in order to win.
A great situation for me would be if Downie ended up on grioux line, and the spot he vacated on the top line in the Avs is filled by the healthy return of McGinn (and not the logical choice of Landy).

my comments were entirely speculation but at the same time 3trades/7years + 12 games = red flag. I believe true character comes out in sport, and downie is a doucher on the ice so that is why I feel it may translate off of it. No doubt he has skill and is effective on the ice but he is up there with Lapierre and Kaleta for players I hope never play for the Canucks or in Lapierre's case, never again.

I expect PA Parenteau to make his way back up to that line. Great chemistry with Duchene last year and a natural RW whereas Lando and McGinn are LW. ROR is also better on the left side, makes sense to keep everyone on their preferred side.
Well shit... isn't Vinny fitting in nicely on Giroux's right... this could easily be an 0 and 3 situation for me, no added role for McGinn, reduced quality in line-mate if PaP leaves his line, Downie from RoR and Matty to a 3rd line spot in PHI...
