So this wasn't an accident? Wow.
I was going to have to expose him or someone like Goodrow, tough to justify given the production difference between them, even with the age, and his ELC is up so not going to be cheap much longer.
That's contradictory. If his production isn't there, it's not like he's gonna get some huge raise. He's likely to get a cheap bridge deal. I think it's a pretty easy decision to let someone like Goodrow go to protect Thomas. This one has the potential to look really bad a few year down the line whereas losing Goodrow might sting a little in the short term. To each their own though. I respect the admission of the thought process, I just can't agree with it haha.

Seattle already looks better than my team as well but not sure that's hard to do.

I just think it's unlikely that Thomas becomes a significantly different player in his career that's all, he may stay cheap but he doesn't shoot, doesn't hit or block, doesn't PK, has had a hard time cracking the top 6 and staying at center. I'd certainly have hung onto him longer to be sure if there wasn't an expansion draft, but it feels likely to me that he ends up providing very little value in BBKL stats. He's played 169 games up to this point, we've got a pretty decent sample of what he's likely to be.

Also feels like a lost opportunity to shop him as I feel like Thomas is the type of player rebuilders and contenders alike would have had some interest in acquiring him.

His team is going to be better than probably roughly half the league.

Fair enough, I probably could have gotten value in a trade then lost someone else, felt like to me I was going to be losing a valuable piece either way and it wasn't worth chasing the dragon

Anywho, it totally could blow up in my face, the gamble for me at this point is whether a young forward who couldn't crack the top 500 skaters in our format this year, couldn't crack the top 300 the year before and couldn't crack the top 400 the year before that suddenly turns into a very different player in his mid 20s. He totally might, but I have my fingers crossed that the odds are on my side.

Definitely some interesting picks in the last handful of picks.

For sure, Seattle could end up being quite strong at this rate

I thought he was going to take Cholowski. Detroit is slow cooking him, but from I read they like him (could be normal prospect bullshit though).
Anyways, I am strong on the blueline with depth options. Losing Reilly does not hurt - and nobody ever made a firm offer for him so I don't feel like much was lost. Plus he is due a raise and just had his best year. He'll likely be cashing in thus making his trade value be even worse. I'm okay to move on.

Ya I do think he gets like 3M, cholowski I’m losing faith in but I guess he had a strong AHL season

I think Cholo just needs to be on a good team and be a sheltered player to start. Once Yzerman gets that blueline figured out, Cholo should be a much better fit in a bottom 4 capacity with PP time. Slow cooking a guy like him makes perfect sense.

Don't think cholo is getting pp time anytime soon with hronek and the guys now coming down the pipeline. He had his opportunity and it was meh.
I took Reilly from chi in my mock too. Seems like a solid score from a bottom team. Also like acciari from Columbus.

No Josi... no Malkin... no Backstrom...
Seattle is going to suck. Really bad.

Sorry about the long break, had to go shower and then get ice cream with the family. Back up and running, hopefully I'll be able to conclude the draft tonight

Malkin is old, Josi is expensive and Backstrom is old and expensive. I'm better off without them.

People sometimes under rate expensive players in this league. If u have the cap room for a productive guy like josi, may as well use it. They are expensive because they are good. Either way, I think u could have traded him for more than gavrikov after 2023 picks become available. Gavrikov is on a nice deal though, so hopefully he ups his production a bit further.

I'm less concerned with every single player's trade value then I am with my own team. If nobosy is willing to give me a package that I think Josi should be worth, then I'm stuck with him. I've seen the trade offers, it wasn't too encouraging...

Stuck with a productive player? Well shit. Hate it when that happens.
