These are just two examples of positioning and quality in the two conferences.
Look at the H2H rankings this season, it's not even close Steve...

The process was favorable for the Jays, Darvish wouldn't have signed with the Jays if he had the choice to select which team to play with. Unfortunately the Jays didn't bid aggressively enough.
