Guys like Karlsson, Doughty, Keith, Pietrangelo and Ekman-Larsson bypassed the bridge deal and got paid. It's all about when your turn cash in comes up. Keith got a 13 year deal. Subban is able command more money because top end contracts are going up can't get more than 8 years. If you're going to pay guys like that...might as well pay them in their prime rather than when they're closer to 30 when they hit UFA status. That being said, I wouldn't have gone up to $9 million for him...maybe $8.5.
