Petri Kontiola has been placed on waivers by the Leafs with the intention of terminating his contract.
He will reportedly head back to the KHL once the transaction is completed. Kontiola didn't earn an NHL roster spot with Toronto out of training camp and he didn't earn a point in 11 minor-league games with the Marlies.

I traded out of that top spot because I'd rather just take best guy remaining out of my top 5 or 10 guys. Let the guys in front of me thin the herd. Mike took Steven Oleksy the year before #1 overall and he's not even in the league anymore.

This is terrible news, would probably make it be nothing more than exhibition games, both in perceptions and efforts from the players, at least a part of them.

Imagine how much Kopitar, Vanek&c would care about their games when they are not playing for their nations.. we already have an allstar game and it's bad enough
