MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONbcool wroteCOLONOttawa is going to be soooooooo bad for the next couple of years.
I don't think they are quite that bad, they cap space to work with in the offseason, and a very strong stable of youth: Erik Karlsson, Jared Cowen, Robin Lehner, David Rundblad, Patrick Wiercoch, Jakob Silfverberg, and now two first rounders. Not to mention a pre-existing core of: Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza, Milan Michalek, and Sergei Gonchar. They aren't far removed from being a strong team, certainly not as bad off as we were a couple of seasons ago (with no top end NHL talent [save for Kaberle] or top prospects).
No goaltending.
Alfredsson also only has a couple more seasons left in him. Once they are ready to compete again, he'll be retired.

Lehner has potential in that role, and Alfredsson is a very valuable trading chip if Ottawa opts to trade him.

TSN reported that Ottawa has stated that the only untouchables on the team are Eriksson & Alfie. Everyone else is fair game for trade talks.

I fucking hope Spezza is moved for another pool I'm in.
I highly highly doubt that though.

Gus under goes another ablation
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that goaltender Jonas Gustavsson underwent a minor heart ablation procedure today in London, Ontario. The determination to have the procedure was made after Gustavsson was examined Friday by the same medical specialists that treated him in the first half of the 2009-10 season. He can begin workouts in seven days.
Gustavsson was assigned to the Toronto Marlies (AHL) for conditioning purposes on February 4. His conditioning assignment has been suspended and he has been placed on Injured Reserve.
Congrats Scott on the anniversary.

I'd be all over that, but he's not a fit here with Bozak in the fold, I also doubt the Avs are dumb enough to trade such a motivated and defensively responsible centerman.

Dustin Byfuglien signs an extension. 5 years/$26 million. 5.2 cap hit per season if you are not a mathematician.

lol... 26million/5 years = 5.2 annual cap hit.
They better hope the first third of the season was the player Big Buff is, that's serious payment for his recent (past 20 games?) play.

I agree Scott, he's 3.25-4.35 range... so many flaws in his game, but he does have wicked physical skillz.
