lol, Will trading McDavid has helped shaped his team into the powerhouse it is today. Mike although his team is still great hasn't won with McDavid/Matthews and will now have to deal with huge cap hits or trade them for less than what Will/Shoalzie got.Lee wroteCOLONquick! trade it to a top 5 team for pennies on the dollar. it's tradition.

Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
To me it's never been about the initial trade you make with the top pick...it's the deals that follow. It's the collection of talent you can bring in to help you rather than just depend on one player to turn it all around. Will obviously has done great with his bounty post-McDavid and what it's turned into. For me, Auston Matthews alone wasn't going to improve my team enough to my liking and I no longer had the patience after so many years near the bottom of the league that I wanted my ticket out. Putting all your hopes of future success of a guy you've not seen play a single game is just as big of a gamble as it is to trade the player away.
If you want to have beef with the top teams that a lot of these picks and prospects have been traded to...well, you sell valuable assets to teams that have assets to burn. A team in the middle of the league isn't going to want to give up multiple valuable pieces that could drastically alter the balance of their team. If you're in the middle third of the league, do you want to rip your roster apart for one player? It's no coincidence the best teams in the league are also the deepest and most balanced rosters. It's how you get to the top and how you stay there. I think any of us would love to be a perennial threat at winning this league but it takes more than just hanging onto to one player for a long time.
If you're Kyle, you can do whatever you want. I think some of us opt for the quick fix by making a deal but if you're willing to be patient with your rebuild and hang onto your 1st round picks...you can find success down the line. Dahlin appears to be a special player in the making but you don't know how good he'll be in fantasy.

Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
That's the problem with Dahlin, he should be the best player by far to come out of this draft in terms of NHL impact, but will he be a fantasy stud? If he ends up being a 50+ point Dman who doesn't PK or hit or block much then his fantasy value won't be equal to his NHL value. I'd still gladly take him at #2 if Kyle passed so I'm not trying to say he won't be great, I just don't think his fantasy upside is as high as Matthews, Laine, McDavid, Eichel etc.

Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
Double checked my sheets...confirmed the draft order. The full first round has been posted in the selection thread. It all starts this coming Friday.
A few picks are inaccurate on Fantrax...those only matter if you're looking trade them prior to the start of the draft.
Montreal: 5th Rounder (MON) -- Traded to VAN
Philadelphia: 3rd Rounder (CAR) -- Traded to DAL
St. Louis: 5th Rounder (STL) -- Traded to MON
I don't know if anything was officially posted but Josh (SJ) has received compensatory picks at the end of the 2nd and 3rd round due to the circumstances around Chicago's 1st round pick. His picks are designated as 62C and 93C. You won't notice a change in the pick position but keep in mind that your picks in the 3rd round are technically one spot later and all picks from the 4th round to the end are two spots later.

Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
I definitely like some of the top10 potential F picks, i think this is an 'average' class overall?
Re: 2018 Draft Discussion
10 to 30 seems all over the place.. top 10 seems v good though.. may end up with some decent D in mid to late first if the tradition of picking C early continues
