Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
leafs dont really need Booth, not to mention they are out of contracts (@50)Nick wroteCOLONFranson still a UFA eh? booth too. I liked booth.
that said, i'd be interested in giving Franson a lot of money over 1-2 year contract (5.5-6mil per). Just for the simple fact they'll need some leadership back there and he often seemed to be a better captain than Dion. Of course this would depend on the leafs trading a contract.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Bah. I really wanted Oduya to get 4+.

I think Franson & Booth both bring a good compete level and a respectable skill level.
Getting them on short term deals would be of benefit to them and the transition leafs, ensuring no kid takes a spot without displacing a proper savy vet.
Plus they are probably an easy way to add an asset at Trade deadline 2 years away

I'd sign em both and then trade them at the deadline.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
they tried to flip booth at the deadline, he didn't even have enough value to nab a late round pick.KapG wroteCOLONI'd sign em both and then trade them at the deadline.
Franson on a 1-2 term deal. Toss as much money as they want at him. Retain 50% at the deadline = profit.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Del Zotto 3.875M (cap hit) for 2 years

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
That wouldn't be about the money. Short term deal where the leafs could retain 50% at the deadline and probably flip franson for a 2nd if he's having a good year.kyuss wroteCOLONLeafs still looking for the worst deal in the league?id give Franson a one year 6 million contract ...
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Yeah but if i were the owner and my GM signed Franson short term at 6M i'd still fire him on the block

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
what Mik will do doesn't always trasnlate to the real NHL. Leafs have boat loads of money and they are finally spending it to benefit the team long term. Franson (at any cost - high or low) doesn't really matter to the leafs as they have tons of cap space, tons of money, and could retain on 1 more contract.kyuss wroteCOLONYeah but if i were the owner and my GM signed Franson short term at 6M i'd still fire him on the block
This discussion is a bit premature as the leafs can't sign anyone as they are at 50 contracts. So unless someone is traded it's impossible to sign Franson or anyone else.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Yeah but you seem to be reasoning under the premise that's not real money. I know Leafs can spend a lot without problems.. but would the ownership being fine with wasting money on horrible contracts for that reason? The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONwhat Mik will do doesn't always trasnlate to the real NHL. Also, iirc there is a limit to the amount or % of
salary a team can retain

to answer your other question - leafs ownership group have given shanny + team all the money and power to build a team and obtain draft picks (as shanny + team) sees fit. They've done it before and it woudln't surprise me to see them do it again. The signings of Matthias, Acro and Hunwick have a lot of people believing they plan to do the same with them. Short term deals where they can flip them for a pick at the deadline.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I believe a team can only retain on 2 players at any given time, yes? The leafs are already retaining on Kessel. Are they retaining another contract right now?

The leafs are currently retaining on Kessel (1.200) and Gunnarrsson (0.200). They can retain on 1 more. Gunnarsson's contract runs up this year as well!
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I'm a little surprised Kyle Cumiskey hasn't gotten an NHL contract yet. The blackhawks chose to use him over their other NHL d-men in both the Anaheim and TB playoff series.
