so put a maximum on the amount a minor league goalie can be traded for and place a max on the number of goalies a team can hold on to... no real need to have ECHL goalies on the team who have been in the pros for a couple of years... 6-7 goalies max per team i think would be fine! If somone wants to hang on to a prospect for fear of them developing, they do so at the risk of not being able to sign/own their whole system.

But to be fair, guys like Mike who has carefully scouted/drafted/traded for goalies/goalie prospects over the years don't see it as hoarding/hostaging. It's more like "where have you been during the draft/what were u thinking when u traded me that goalie? I was thinking about my future. Were you? Where has ur Waiver draft/mid to late draft picks gone? Have you even drafted a goalie with it before? Or Have u traded em away for shits and giggles cuz u hate drafting? Is that my problem?"
And it's to be honest, completely fair game and understandable
It's just as painful of an unforeseeable future to see a player sign overseas (KapGs luck) all of a sudden to goalies all of a sudden no longer being available for u. I think everyone should keep mindful of such facts and be responsible for drafting for goalies once in a while or trade for goalie prospects to keep a reasonable cupboard full for their own sake.

Of all goalie hostaging outcry some of you went thru over the last year or so, this is the first time I've ever spoken out of the matter tbh. I've always thought this way and nobody shud be labelled a hoarder

This doesn't do anything to stop the problem of GMs not wanting to trade back up goalies to other teams.

Need people to be reasonable.
Both the sellers and the buyers need to consider league health and reverse the situations.

True. We can then point to the phone booth study and see the results....lol

Ya true. Tough call. But if its causing guys to leave the league, that's not fun.

And I agree with Kimmer... good on Mike and whoever else focused on drafting top end goalies. Definitely some solid return on investment with that strategy.

You can't force guys to trade their own players though. Has to be incredibly frustrating for guys in need of goalies though.

Nobody is obligated to trade anyone but of course I'd love to see the price of goaltending go down. If you're fortunate enough to have depth at that position, you shouldn't owe it to anyone to trade the assets unless you get fair compensation.

Nobody, people are making an assumption Tony is gone and saying maybe it's because of goalies but Tony has never said he has quit.

Ffs, tony still has Niemi and the sjs backup. It's not everyone else's fault he doesn't have much system depth, and will need to downgrade his roster in order to get the exact goaltender he wants that he somehow thinks he is entitled to. He is boxing himself in. No one is doing that to him. Guys need to grow up and quit pouting about goalies.
Guess what? Pay market value for a goalie, and you then haven't lost value, just put your value somewhere else, unless the bottom falls out of the goalie market you can then move said goalie for value again later.
I think the teams who decided to put all their value into their roster, and have no prospect depth, are finally having that strategy catch up to them after 4 years. Deep teams are coming along and showing why it's better to have depth, in case of unforeseeable circumstances.
I like the goalie rules how they currently are, but imo the best way to decrease goalie value in this league is to make 16 skater cats and 4 goalie cats. Right now, a goalie or 2 is worth 4 categories, and thus is super valuable.
But I honestly don't think the backup market is that expensive unless you are grabbing one with high end starter upside. I got lindback for a 2017 2nd rounder, and that block was open for a few weeks. All the guys complaining they couldn't get a backup for anything but a 1st clearly weren't around for weeks on end.

Oh for Christ's sake... I never said I was quitting and fuck you all for thinking I was being a baby. I was taking a break because its the most boring time if the year and wanted to rest before having to deal with 29 assholes for 9 months straight. I even said I was taking a break in the vacation thread. I'll be back close to the waiver draft and you can all moisten your panties when I do... fags.

This is the answer. I had a long pursuit of looking for a goaltender. The only GM's who seemed to be even somewhat reasonable in their asking prices were you, Mike and Foofnik. But theres a responsibility on both ends if we feel that the market of goaltenders is out of control, there have been a few people who have drastically overpaid to drive this market to where it is now. There is responsibility on the buyers just as much as the sellers.
And before my critics some out of thew woodwork call me a cheap ass, look at what I sold the Philadelphia system for. I got a below market offer that I considered to be fair so I took it. It does nothing for the health of the league to have some assets absolutely disproportionately highly priced based on their production.

this is just wrong imho.
If I think a player's production has a good chance to skyrocket in the future I'm fully entitled to price him accordingly no matter how other GMs who don't feel the same would like to acquire him.

What I mean is. If you have a lower tier goaltender who does little to nothing to help you in the goaltender stat field besides GP and the occasional W or strong effort. It seems that the asking price is for multiple consistent mid-high end producers out of your player stat field. The demand out there is to make your roster significantly worse to fill a certain position, and I don't think that is healthy.
Now as mentioned everyone isn't like this. But I would say it is the current dominant perspective after significant investigation around the league.
