It's fairly similar to the old Wales/Campbell format where you had to win your "division playoffs" to get to the conference finals. The only crossover in the first two rounds would be if the wild card comes from the opposite division.

IMO a special circumstance exemption is called for - I doubt the NHL punishes a team for a player needing leave for this situation. Unless someone objects, i would suggest an LitR situation without the 3weel minimum.

We had our own scare before my daughter was born, then my brother-in-law had something similar to Stajan's situation last year ... very emotionally taxing. Things still aren't completely back to normal in their household. Saying I feel bad for Matt is a huge understatement ... I'd definitely take the rest of the season off. Not like Calgary has a shot this year anyhow.
