I'd leave the categories we have alone.

Giveaways and takeaways would be interesting to add...maybe just use the giveaway/takeaway ratio. It's a counting stat but the up and down from game-to-game would be fun to follow.

I don't think you'd want to add shootout numbers but those do matter in the real game.

Let's say you add one more category like giveaway/takeaway ratio...it would be a 6th periph/specialty/defense category but you'd still have 7 offensive categories. +/- could be considered either offense or defense.

I think it would reduce the number of matchup ties but you could still have 8-8-1 with 17 categories.

Any idea of what category has produced the most ties? I've got imagine it's shutouts.

I like PIMs. Some PIMs help save goals while other PIMs are no so good. Hard to say all PIMS are bad. An extra stat for fighting majors would be cool

TK and GV seem interesting.

CORSI and FENWICK would be interesting also

I could also get behind a giveaway/takeaway ratio stat being added. And when it comes to PIMS and fighting majors I would say you have to go one or the other not both, would give too much weight to pure goonery. Don't have a strong opinion on which category to go with either way.

Agreed on the side of one or the other but not both but I personally am on the side of fights

The problem with TA/GA is give away are a relevant stat if counted only in the defensive zone. I can't check the stats here, but i suspect the overall GA stat only penalizes the best players, those with the skills to try to create something offensively.

Another problem adding any stat for skaters is our current number of stats for goalies (and their weight) becomes too small

ta/ga doesn't work well. need the puck to have it taken away.

It's also horribly recorded. Not a reliable stat even kinda.

They are making microchips in the players gloves to track GV/TK...next season
