Im not claiming him to be a rockstar or even make my team but when people talk about others hoarding players in there minors while they dress rosters with players that are not even playing, thats an issue. It has to suck being penalized on your pick when games played is not met. I offered a waiver pick with a 6th as well instead. I would bet that since BBKL started there is way more talent picked in the first round of our waiver draft than all the third round picks combined. Its not a big deal. Love to see the results of every single player picked in the third round of BBKL since we started and see how many have played NHL games. If im sitting there with holes in my roster and i can get a warm body for a third round pick im all over it. I guess i am crazy. That is why I have no picks and that is why you have such a solid team now. You were handed a bunch of picks and this league over values picks so you cashed in on that and did an amazing job at it.
I agree the waiver pick and 6th was fine and that people struggling to get GP can be too picky. Thanks for the compliment too and if you look at the picks I own in the next two years it's pretty obvious I belong to the same school of thought as you in terms of their value. I feel bad for teams like Dallas since the previous owner didn't leave him with many picks so I can understand not wanting to part with a 3rd for a player that isn't going to improve his franchise. Not his fault Pete traded a 1st for Gibbons instead of more depth or a bunch of 3rds to acquire depth. If other teams miss GP and have a bunch of assets, but refuse to make trades for GP that's on them *cough* Lee *cough*

Sestito has probably the same chance of playing a bunch of NHL games as a 3rd rounder was what I was getting at since both are pretty low.

I'm more than willing to make trades, just not for 30 year old AHL players.

CAM wroteCOLONNow Don't get me wrong if you have 3,4 or 5 3rd and 4th round picks odds are you may get lucky with one of the 7 picks. the problem with that is the teams in BBKL who have all the picks are also at roster maximum so you are making the decision to dump players that may turn out to be gems. Ask Mik about Marcus Foligno and Jared Spurgeon.
for the record:
I didn't draft Foligno and Spurgeon. I signed Spurgeon as a FA ad Foligno was already on the team I inherited. Since I had never seen Foligno play, had no attachment to him, and got Spurgeon for free, I was fine letting them go at that cheap price under those circumstances (especially to a Eastern team, with other Eastern top teams GMs were spitting on my block.. )

More fitting examples would be
- Andersen, drafted him with the last pick of the first Entry draft I took part to, fell victim to the numbers game in a trade completed few months later (after the asshole of course sucked hard along those first months after the draft)
- Jokipakka, drafted in the 7th, added to a trade to FLA Chris (not for free though)
- Gostisbehre, drafted in the 6th, went in a package for a 3rd to trim the roster at submission
- Reid Boucher, drafted in the 4th, moved in the following season

or more recently
- Nesterov, drafted in the 6th, recently packaged to Nick for a 4th
- Sharov, drafted in the 7th, recently packaged to Nick for a 4th

Still, the thing is, on Jokipakka, Gostisbehere, Nesterov and Sharov I still made a profit, albeit peanuts in comparison to what could have been (still to be seen about Nest and Sharov actually), and more importantly:
- I didn't trim others like Lindbohm, W.Karlsson, Graovac.. Abeltshauser led to getting Bonino, Olden led to Vatanen, Corrado was part of the OEL trade...
- it's not like everyone will be forced to trim too soon their draftees like I had to, there are still quite some teams with a lot of room under the roster limits, so they can make their pick and wait till they prove their value...

much better for me taking a chance at a player that may become relevant one day than sitting on a hopeless Sestito.

See, when it comes to drafting Mik, I feel you have an advantage in making those off the board picks because alot of people in here have no clue about most of the players you pick.

Graovac, Corrado, Gostisbehre, Boucher are all North American though.

(I could also say I had a disadvantage when it came to Spurgeon and Foligno as it was harder for me watching them play, but not really relevant to the point here)

Yea, that was a total fluke with Spurgeon and Foligno. I will always throw picks at random packages. that is why i have no picks. That one just paid off. I always have roster space and room for contracts. That holds some value in here.

Always a tough call when going for fringe picks that have exceeded expectations from draft position, have they peeked or are they actually better then expected?
