I don't think they should and the pick should be left in 3rd and Billy fined.
How is that fair to Arian, who did meet GP?
I don't understand this point.

If you are saying Billy's team was better than Arian's and Arian should be picking 3rd and Billy 4th then why should you also receive good compensation? That's what I am struggling with, if it is the belief that Billy's pick shouldn't be 3rd then I would think logically the team holding it wouldn't need compensation since the pick was never supposed to have the value of 3rd overall. If compensation is still deemed necessary then the current system seems way to favourable to the GM holding the pick moved back one spot into the spot it should be in anyways.

I don't need to hijack your trade block though and this has 0 affect on me.

What should be and what is are 2 different things.

For example, one might argue that in the NHL, the defending Stanley Cup champs should be in the playoffs, but they are not.

Leaving things open to the hypothetical is a slippery slope that we should avoid at all cost.

I should receive compensation because Billys team was moved back one slot for missing GP, as is stated in the rules.

Adding compensation is something that should be in the rules. You said yourself that people shouldn't be punished for holding picks that are being moved back by the actions of another GM.

In this case, Billy is being fined for missing GP. Arian moves up as a result, my pick moves back. As a result, I get compensation.

Once again this league manages to suck the fun factor out of things by gms being self serving and petty
I will pay any fines placed without argument.

Bruyns wroteCOLONThat's interesting with the compensation being paid to the GM. I'd think that Lee already benefited from Billy's injuries since that pick is a lot higher than it would have been if Billy's team is healthy. Now his pick will be moved back one spot and he will gain a 2nd and 3rd on top of that. Seems like a big benefit to Lee getting a high pick due to injuries and 2 bonus picks on top of that.

I would have figured the picks would go to nobody since the pick being moved is supposed to represent where it would be if the team met GP. It makes draft picks from teams in danger of missing GP more valuable since you will be awarded extra picks.

It's moved down due to less GP causing the team to be lower in the standings than they should be was always the reasoning I thought.

At least something is being done since I was annoyed last season my 4th overall pick was moved back a spot, I wasn't going to receive any compensation and the offending team received no punishment. Still don't understand why I was the only person penalized in that situation, but was told it was since the pick was that high due to missing GP so I guess that reasoning has changed since compensation is now going to GMs.
This too

I clearly was miskaten.

I don't think Lee is incorrect that Billy's being moved back is a loss of value to him, that has nothing to do with his own circumstances.

Simple solution : Meet GP.

I busted my ass to meet GP at the deadline. You did nothing.

I'd gladly take 3rd overall instead of 4th + a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Again I will pay all fines

I also want to state that not once this season was I tanking or purposely missing gp.
I was hit with terrible bad luck and injuries in a tough division, I realize this is not an excuse but as Matt stated without big time key injuries to multiple high end players I would have not only made gp but Imo that pick is outside the top 10.

Yeah, when I traded Anton Stralman for that pick and Doherty, I expected it to be mid round.

Stralman turned out to be a rather nice asset as well. Not top 5, but...

Oh yeah, not knocking Stralman at all. He had a fantastic year.

Lee wroteCOLONScott did Shep a solid for actively fighting to meet GP so the pick wouldn't be devalued. I feel Shep would have case for asking for compensation from the CC.

I would've screwed over Shep if I missed on GP but I also would've gotten a fine and the last thing I need is to lose additional assets over something like that. It was the honorable thing to get to 1100 but I also had motivation not to finish 29th in the league...that didn't work so well. I made my trade with the hope that I wouldn't be setting him up to get McEichel. We'll find out in less than 2 weeks if that happens.

Rules are in place for compensation and fines if you miss on GP...it shouldn't really be up for debate. Either you get there or you don't. You can't really use the "bad luck" card because making deals to adjust to injuries is part of your in-season GM duties unless you have guys you can call up as fill-ins.

Hi BTW my name is Will and since I have been allowed to trade, I have made trades that help increase DAL GP, met the cap floor, etc and regularly dressed 7Dman in an attempt to turn this shit show around.

Talks ongoing with 3 teams currently. Willing to include Carolina, for the right system.
