Actually, Casper and I have discussed this deal in detail and I don't agree with any of you. This is not a slam post. Some things to consider:

Hossa is 36.
Next year, Hossa will be 37
If you truly believe in player attrition, 37 is a deadly age to be at
Which would be okay if I win this year, but I don't think I'm close to a favourite
Not to mention 3 roster players for 1 is usually a bad deal unless the 1 player is significantly better
Cooke is 37 but Schultz and Talbot are 30/31 and have many years of solid periph production left
I'd much rather move the package for a younger player who is worse than Hossa
I do believe Hossa is an "exception" but given players like MSL, Selanne, Alfie, Lidstrom, Chara, Timonen, Elias to name just a few elite players who have had their stats attrition off does not make me trust Hossa's production for more than 1-2 eyars.
CGY's pick will be 16-24...I believe I can find a solid player there who will likely be worth more than Hossa at the draft next year.

FYI - I love Hossa as a player and will likely pay for him in the future so again, not a slam post. He's a championship piece. Just does not have many years left.

Many people don't know this, but there was a time when my team was all draft picks and prospects. I drafted deep in the 2011 draft I think? Players I took in late rounds: Gudas, Mark Stone. Had like 7 1st round picks.

I just don't like putting in that time. But I will now. I think it's the way to win in this league.

It's been around so long I have no idea where I got it from

Its pretty difficult to rationalize giving up a 1st for a 36 yr old winger, imo, unless one is absolutely ready to compete. Like, the last piece.
