As a Leafs fan I hope you're right on Timashov

As not a leaf fan, Who is better: timashov or Andreas Johnson?
Timashov the awards nick mentioned, Johnson SHL rookie of the year.

IMO Johnson but its not a really any gap, pretty similar and very interesting prospects. More than fringe despite their draft positions. Transition to AHL/NHL is key and always tough to predict with undersized players, however their play post draft this season has been amazing.
Johnson is a year further in development, and I believe is suiting up with the Marlies now?

Next season with the Marlies.

I accepted risk in this deal, obviously don't view this as accurate.
Tima Show is nicely tested prospect at this stage, and although Klas didn't have a great sophomore season, I try and make a buy low pick from time to time. I do love Eric Staal and believe he'll sign around 6M and return to 50+ points and a huge shot producer.
Dahlbeck was a rookie this year pretty sure.

Although nick likely loses the deal value-wise, looking at his roster, the shtoi + hits + blocks + cap saving dahlbeck offers him may actually help him more so than staal. He has a lot of scoring and yet is lacking in those Periph areas.

Idk I didn't think Staal was very good in his stint with the Rangers

well; calder eligible yes, however player 19games to end the 2014-2015 season after ARZ acquired him and was better than most expected. This year he didn't match that level of play. This is me hoping it was his early sophomore slump.

Well apparently I sold really low on Timo

That's why I say it only takes one guy to like someone to get an over payment.
Still, Timo is no where near worth a first. But hey, if he is to Nick, who are we to judge.

Yeah everyone is more than entitled to ask for whatever they want for a player, it just seems strange when a valuation is very much against what the general consensus is, some deviation is to be expected.

It's more or less the same as my valuation of Gelinas. If he farts around next year, I will lower my valuation accordingly. Right now I still see him as a player that can reach the 30 pt plateau again. Goof off next year and he will join the bargain basement.

What would a player drafted in the 5th round need to do post-draft year for them to be worth a first?

There's nothing they can do. Over agers are expected to have great post draft seasons. Take Andrew Nielsen as an example. Great post draft season. Not worth a first. Drafted higher that Timo.

Is Kevin Labanc drafted in the 6th round worth a 1st? Put up 234 points in his last 133 games in the OHL which is lower scoring than the Q.
The reason Timo dropped are questions about if his game will translate to the NHL. Same reason why even though Labanc was first in points in the O outscoring Dvorak by 6 he still isn't talked about like a can't miss stud prospect.
Here are some knocks on Timashov
"His size, physical game, and defense are issues. He also has a tendency to make some risky decisions. I like him a lot but I see what the hesitations would be."
"I saw Timashov a few times recently. Skating appears to be a bigger issue than I thought around the draft. Not super slow, but a little wonky for a smaller guy. I know of a few NHL people who thought that was an issue for them."
Really high risk/reward guy that either makes it in the NHL as a skilled playmaker or doesn't play in the NHL at all, I don't see a bottom 6 energy type of player role in his future so he needs to be able to produce offence at the NHL level.

when were these comments released?
cause to me his skating this season looked definitely better than pre-draft (not to mention his shot)

this is probably true though
