Sure, he may be in the minors and thus off of NYR books but that doesn't change for us. I don't see a difference between playing in Hartford and playing in Europe.
Right now Huet is the equivalent of an unsigned Euro, his hit does not count against the cap of any North American organization, not the NHL, and not the AHL.
Redden is different, as he cleared waivers to come off the cap, and is still being paid out by New York, it just doesnt count against their official cap.
Huet will still be paid by Chicago. Nylander was last year by Washington.

Yeah, I don't see the difference. Why should Huet be treated as an unsigned Euro? He still has an NHL contract. He also cleared waivers just like Redden.

As for precedent, I think Nylander spent last year on one of the crappier team's bench to get him over the floor.

I don't see where this was ever mandated. Being in the AHL is still a 'loan' yet we keep that salary active in BBKL. I agree with Shoalzie here.
Half the stuff we discuss is not "mandated" doesn't mean it's wrong. I'm not arguing against Shoalzie retaining Huet, I am arguing that his cap count against the cap, when he is on loan to a European club. Under the CBA you cannot count a players salary against the cap if they are playing overseas UNLESS said player was bought out, and buy outs in the NHL don't affect BBKL, so that is irrelevant.

Care to translate that for me? I have no idea what it says. From all reports I've seen, he is rumored to be lent out but never actually lent out.

Off Eliteprospects.com, it's listed as "confirmed" that he's loaned to Gottéron in France.

You have this opposite - buyouts in the NHL do affect the BBKL. We get their new salaries if they re-sign. If not, they are UFAs.

As for being assigned to a Euro team, there is no difference than someone being assigned to the AHL. Players assigned to Euro teams have nothing in common with unsigned Euros other than geographic proximity.

If you disagree with this we should take it to the CC and see what the temperature is over there.

Thanks Mike...I'd at least like a ruling from the CC before I proceed with exposes him to waivers. My apologies for causing a mini shit storm.

For due process, I'm going to throw in a claim on Huet as well.

If I need to drop someone before I make the claim offical, let me know, otherwise I'll drop someone if my claim on him is processed.

100% need to have space before a claim is made.

I don't feel strongly about this at all, if the majority think I'm wrong, which is the feeling I'm getting, than just go with what you have. No need to stall this two days or more with a CC decision.

Chicago assigns Huet to Swiss league and voila, his contract is off the books.

Good enough for me (Y) Withdrawing my non existant claim :P

Huet's contract still counts, so I assume Scott still wants him on waivers. Feel free to make claims.

No, they would need to clear first.
So claim then waive again I assume?
yes.. if claiming a player from waivers, he'll have to stay on your 23 man roster.. or else you'll have to waiver the player again to be assigned to your minor league affliate.
Edit: after looking this over this isn't quite correct.

If you claim a player they must stay on your roster for a certain time period (14 days ... kinda arbitrary but fuck it). So: no immediate re-waving.

Also, if you don't have the cap space to claim a player you must make the space immediately after a successful claim or it will be denied.

Alright, well you can withdraw my Huet claim then. I thought I could waive him immediately.

probably a dumb question but.. define immediately? i mean, a GM could be away the day when the player gets assigned to his team..
is there a limit to the available time to make room?

I believe the NHL gives managers a 12-24 hour window, correct me if I'm wrong admins.
