I also couldn't afford Andersen and the market for goalies was pretty much non-existent. Still think it's too much for Saros even though I do think he eventually becomes a #1.
Re: Any good goalies available?
Was Andersen even a starter at the time you traded him? Still you got back a good nhl player+2nd in a non-existent market as you put it.Bruyns wroteCOLONI also couldn't afford Andersen and the market for goalies was pretty much non-existent. Re: Any good goalies available?
Ya I had Andersen + Gibson and then Leafs traded for him and paid him 5M so I had to pick one of the 2 goalies to go with.
Re: Any good goalies available?
The NHL is chewing up the tiny goalies these days. Not sure how long Saros lasts. Rinne might actually still have a longer career then he hahahaha (JK, I love Saros, he's adorable).

I guess you meant for you though, not for the rest of the league

Re: Any good goalies available?
Saros is penciled in to be the starter within the next couple of years but that can change in an instant.
Re: Any good goalies available?
You never know when you are going to go the way of the Lindback. Not a single goalie under Rinne has become a starter. I think Saros will change that... but it's still no guarantee.Lee wroteCOLONSaros is penciled in to be the starter within the next couple of years but that can change in an instant.

Who's going to take that spot? It's not like Nashville is brimming with goalie talent in the system.Lee wroteCOLONSaros is penciled in to be the starter within the next couple of years but that can change in an instant.

Remember me again how many teams trade for/sign starters to play ahead of young goaltending prospects?
Re: Any good goalies available?
King Henrik is available, not under 30 but meets the other requirements
The under 30 requirement would cut out like 80-90% of starters in this league right?

Yep. Can't imagine Vas or Helle are available. Or Gibson for that matter. Under 30 starting goalies are a limited commodity.Loki wroteCOLONKing Henrik is available, not under 30 but meets the other requirements

True. If you don't have a young goalie, you're piecing your situation together...and it's expensive. I'm not anti-30+ goalies...those guys are only good for so many categories. Given we play 4 teams a week...an 0-fer in the wins and other goalie categories hurt you four-fold. You need someone who will get you starts and more times than not give you good starts.
Only 10 of the goalies who had 30+ starts (37) last year had a GAA under 2.50. 23 of those goalies had a save % higher than .910. Honestly, if you have a top 20 starter in the league...you're doing okay.

Productive goalies in their early 20s should cost a lot in the trade market because if you're trading them for an older option, you're giving up years of good goaltending numbers. Goalies over 30 have value but we don't know how long those guys are going to be starters at their current teams or if they'll move into a backup role before too long.
To me, you pay for starts...stats are a bonus.
Re: Any good goalies available?
Starters last year under 30:
Hellebuyck (24)
Andersen (28)
Bobrovsky (29)
Vasilevski (23)
Gibson (24)
Markstrom (27)
Jones (27)
Allen (27)
Lehner (26)
Varlamov (29)
Murray (23)
Raanta (28)
Darling (29)
There's actually more than I thought, but a few right around the cutoff, can't imagine too many are available, and the ones who are have a murky looking future
