Is there a sentence missing here? I don't understand what you are trying to say, you begin by bringing up statistics and history for #1 centers, but follow it up with opinion, rather than fact like it appeared you were preparing to do.
In regards to your last comment, you couldn't be more wrong. RNH has the skills to be a very talented pivot, of that there is no doubt, but there has also been a great deal of debate as to whether or not he should even go #1 overall, concerns about his: polish, size, consistency and top end have all been the topic of great debate. So while there is alot to like, there is quite a bit to dislike as well, and that does not lead to a center with a, "high likelihood" of reaching his potential, if it were RNH would be a consensus #1 selection. Your post also ignores the one obvious tool it requires to become a "perfect fit" alongside Eberle and Hall, size...

I agree Kareem. it is not certain that RNH is the best player/center int his draft. But what I meant to say is that statiscally, #1 overall picks have a tremendous track record of living up to the hype. dont have the energy to pull stats on each.
also, even if one argues that RNH is not the best player in this draft, he will find himself in the best position. All other drafted centers may find themselves on a team that needs a #1 center but those teams do not have wingers like Taylor Hall and MSP waiting.
RNH is a prime candidate for rookie of the year and imo could put up 60 points. A 19 year old 60 point Center next year is worth the overpayment to me. Not to mention the possible upside beyond next year.

You are correct in pointing out the track record of #1 overall selections, but there are two things you need to consider. One, RNH has yet to be drafted first overall, and two this draft lacks a prototypical #1 overall pick, so it remains to be seen whether this draft can compare to past trends. The only other non-consensus first I can recall in recent memory is, Patrick Kane, but he was also statistically far and away the best player of not only 2007, but any draft since. I'm not sure RNH' odds stacks up well against Kane, but stranger things have happened.

Look up the history of high scoring WHL players going high in the draft, and then carrying that over to the NHL. It's a very poor track record.

Guys there is only one point I am making. Whichever Center gets chosen by Edmonton, will be in a prime position of becoming the Oilers' franchise player up the middle with Hall on the wing. RNH if drafted by EDM (which is practically inevitable) has the skill sets and the environment to thrive in. If he still does not thrive with Hall on his wing then yes it will be a bad trade. But as an investment, it is well worth it.

I'll take the high road too and just tip my cap to you for improving your team and I'll move on and worry about my own team. I've pestered you enough about that pick...we can just agree to disagree.

You sir are very deserving of the Fair Play Award, I wouldn't have been so kind in my response, if I were you.

+1. Kyle, Chuck and Shoalzie are way more mature than most of us in this league.

It's not like I'm in a position to take any shots at a team (which I wasn't towards Lee...just interjecting my thoughts) when I've got so much work ahead of me to improve. This league all about throwing out opinions and whether or not I have a bad team, I'm still entitled to saying what I think but I can also respect anyone disagreeing with what I have to say. I generally don't showboat when I win and I'm usually humble when I lose.

RNH is so far from a typical #1 draft pick it should have everyone running from this draft in general...just as the scouts saw this draft group coming (last year, two years ago, and all the way back to them as 15 year olds). Yes there will be a few kids who turn out awesome, but there will be more that miss their 'potential' then achieve it.
Shiv you're selling off your team for one of the worst predicted drafts in some time. And drafting or trading for a player because of who they could play with is a very, very, bad idea/argument -> at least IMHO. Draft the player, not what # you think they will go, not what team they'll go to.

For Hall's sake I'd really like it if whoever the Oilers picked @ centre works out well. Maybe they steal B.Rich and draft Larson.

I feel the same way Nick. The kid I want I like more then anyone in the draft. This draft is such a crapshoot.
