Call me a fucking lemming (sp?) But I couldn't give two flying fucks about these administrative decisions. Whatevers decided goes for me. Simple. I adapt and react when I'm not in power.

Guys the loophole created by allowing a goalie focused trade after a first deadline is not worth the hassle. So say Howard goes down for the rest of the season, detroit trades for Nabakov, what sort of deal am I allowed to make? Can I get a roster played + Nabakov back if the value is right? It's a very ugly situation where a team can add a piece after the deadline... we already have enough guys saying they can avoid the trade rules via bets and no one can prove otherwise. Best left avoided IMO.
We have two choices as I see it:
1) a deadline further back (2 weeks?), and any good/bad bounces are simply taken on the chin -> if your tandem is at risk of adding a goalie, better to add one just incase.
2) our current setup, which is a fairly inconsequential deadline

May be inconsequential, but also pointless IMO. Might as well just be allowed to trade until the playoffs...

3 day difference - gives room for roster checking and confirmation. No rush please process despite missing lock by 2 minutes... gives us time if nothing else.

I know. It's stupid.
We're hoping to push it so it's 3-5 weeks before the end of our regular season.
However, the one issue that always comes up is what if your starting goalie goes down within the time after the deadline and the playoffs. You're fucked completely.
That is so stupid, why would it be 4 or 5 weeks before the end of the regulaur season? That is almost a 1/4 of our season, with injuries a prominent factor in our league, and no valid reason to push the deadline up other than to appease a few idiots, the deadline should be very close to the end of our regulaur season. 1 to 2 weeks tops, it boggles my mind that people want it sooner.

Maybe we should just eliminate the trade deadline. Obviously playoff team can't make trades though.

Skaters a few weeks before, Goaltenders deadline the actual trade deadline
BOOOOOOM FIXED
No offense, but that is stupid too. Whether an injury happens to a goaltender or player, the result is devastating, especially for a contender without a replacement, I'm not sure why a goalie would take precedence over a player, and consequently why we would have separate deadlines for the two, seems subjective to me. Secondly, goalie for goalie swaps rarely happen, there tends to be a + involved, either players/picks/prospects, thus only allowing goalies to be traded does little to help a team that loses one down the stretch. The obvious solution here is obvious...Push the deadline to 1-2 before the playoffs, it gives teams the maximum amount of time to deal with problems that may arise prior to the post season, and is more convenient for everyone involved.

There's a realism factor to a few weeks after trade deadline where playoff teams are separated at, teams that are buyers versus sellers, a few last chances to do the last hockey trade, etc.
However the negative implications to our league, specifically regarding goalies, outweighs the benefits of dichotomizing teams a few weeks earlier (and livening up the trade market).

Does anyone even know why pro sports institute a trade deadline? I don't, but I assume their reasoning does not apply to us in the slightest.

Your first point is the closest thing to a valid pro I have heard regarding the trade deadline, but I think you would even agree this league has enough activity as it is, and promotes a natural buyers/sellers market even without a deadline. It would be a greater concern if the activity in this league were minimal.

I'm sure it was a players union demand during negotiations but who knows. I too think its dumb but what can you do?

NHL deadline is with 1/4 left in their season. I don't see what the problem with that is?
If it's 1 week, what is the point of having a deadline?

Eliminate the deadline then if people don't want it earlier. As it is, non-playoff teams are just not allowed to trade for 4 days. Hardly makes sense to me to have one that late.

The reasons the NHL conducts a trade deadline do not apply to us, they also have in house options they can call up in the case of an injury. As for your second point, I would be more than happy to eliminate the trade deadline entirely, but I can see the purpose of holding it 1-2 weeks prior to the playoffs to the CC and Admin team have time to ensure that playoff rosters comply with the gp and cap rules the league enforces.

It makes sense, it gives playoff teams a fair timeline to get their rosters submitted, and allows the CC to double check rosters and make sure they comply with league rules.
