Shiv buddy, Langenbrunner is 35, Boyes is 28 and hasn't missed a game in his pro career. Paul Martin has never scored 37 pts in a season although a solid defender, Andy Greene is now the go-to-guy as in offensive Dman in New Jersey (as of right now) and has an insanely beautiful cap hit @ 738k and is 28 as well.. your pieces weren't bad but when you take into consideration age and the cap hit of Greene, I think it was a no brainer for Chuck to like my offer better than yours.. I think it was a really good deal for the both of us, he wanted to upgrade his D and he landed a tier 2 star who isn't far removed from 43 goals in Boyes..

Both deals were good, if you want to split hairs then Scotts looks better, depends on what your looking for, could Brodeur be on the move. ;)

in your deal:

to get boyes chuck had to include bergfors
boyes + 1st + 3rd cancel out with mason + 5th.
the deal is essentially andy greene for niklas bergfors (who also has a beautiful cap hit of under 1m)

in my deal:

chuck received (langenbrunner - stempniak) + martin + emery for mason.

personally i dont see how its even close but again im biased (before you get riled up again mashley im just discussing the trade). chuck definitely did like your deal better and the majority here seem to agree.

the law of large numbers says im going to win a bidding war sooner or later against you :x

It seemed like Mason was two different goalies these last two seasons but then again, the Jackets seemed like they were two different teams. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle on both. I think Arniel will allow the Jackets to play a little looser and allow their skill players perform. However, I think that means the defense will be not as tight as before and Mason could be getting plenty of shots in his direction. He'll have games where he'll dominate but he seems prone to having those games where he'll let in 3 or 4 early and not even survive the first. He faced about the same number of shots as his Calder trophy season but in 463 fewer minutes though. Losing that defensive structure that Hitchcock preached could make Mason very vulnerable and we'll see what kind of a goalie he is. He'll definitely get lion's share of the starts in Columbus but I don't see the Jackets being a playoff team as the way they're constructed. Without some improved on defense, they're going to likely be in the Central basement again.

I'm predicting he'll get back towards 30 wins but he'll hover around .500 overall. He'll get his fair share of shutouts...in the 4-7 range. His save percentage will improve because I see him not yielding as many goals and he'll face a lot of shots...the odds are that he'll have better numbers by default. His goals against will probably be around 2.45 to 2.60. He won't be All-Star or Vezina worthy but he won't be nearly as bad as he was last year. The obvious benefit of Mason is that he's cheap for another year and he's playing for a contract so perhaps that reflects positively towards his next deal.

You think Petersson steals the spot from Evander? given their additional time together at the WC it seems like a logical start for a line.
