yeah because decisions from a GM can backfire even if it is a very good one, if the player doesn't deliver when all scouts/analysts from every direction are saying that he is the guy. Not to overrate Connolly at all, but everyone knew barring his injury-prone history, that this was a nice signing because he could've potentially been our #1-2 center. Nobody argued against it strongly then I don't think. The "5+ yrs in bottom 5" rebuild is just safe, no matter how u spin it ur going to come out with 5 yrs of top 5 talent at the end of the year, and nowhere near as much risks involved.

Proper rebuild might be a bad term for what I mean. I just mean the going full rebuild mode is sometimes the best option not that other methods don't work or shouldn't be considered. I was more so countering the hate for teams getting multiple high draft picks, seems silly to me.

Consistent good decision making with a focus on the long-term goals, IMO is a proper rebuild. Using all available information at the time of the signing/draft/trade is all that can be asked; never focusing too much on the deal in front of you, as it's easy to justify a decision in isolation -> but the trend over weeks, days, years is much more important.
I hear lots of speculation that different organizations make (or break) prospects, I personally put much more credit on the player himself. Rushed, held back, timed perfectly -> how can it be said for certain w/o a control; the human error component is way too big - potential confounding variables and unknowns are gigantic.
Personally I've liked what Burke has done, and continues to do. Would I un-do the Kessel trade? Absolutely. The Connolly signing, 100%. But at the time, both appeared to be very well thought out decisions.
meh the connolly signing wasnt even that bad
and Id still do that Kessel trade.

but yeah as a stop gap on a 2 year deal the Connolly signing wasnt bad, just wasnt as good as it was expected.

Decent numbers for a 3rd liner but he wasn't brought in to be a 3rd liner
