Excited for the season boys!

All the relevant transactions threads are open for business.
I still need roster submissions from those who missed last night's deadline. I'll start reviewing stuff tonight. I just looked at them long enough to get your waived players.
Once again, waivers opens at noon today.

What's our rules on IR use? Is it just any injury (even day-to-day) and we can toss on IR? Not to pick on Mik or anything cause his team has lots of injuries, but it came to mind from seeing him place so many guys on IR. I'd almost push towards a designation that if we put someone on the IR, we can't use him for "x" (?2) weeks minimum, and if he comes back before then, we are penalized a roster spot?
What's the rule in the NHL? If someone is "day-to-day" can they call up a player from the minors? I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong.
Here is some rule digging I did:
"Injured Reserve List
In the event that a player is injured and a Club wishes to place him on the Injured Reserve List the Club must follow these procedures: A club may place a player on the Injured Reserve List if such player is injured, disabled or ill and unable to perform his duties as a hockey player after having passed the Club's initial physical examination in that season.
A player who has an injury that renders him physically unable to play for a minumum of seven days after that date of the injury can be placed on the Club's Injured Reserve List. Once a player is placed on the list, the Club may replace said player on its NHL roster with another player. All determinations that a player has suffered an injury warranting injured reserve status must be made by the Club's medical staff and in accordance with the Club's medical standards.
A player placed on Injured Reserve is ineligible to compete in NHL games for a period of not less than seven days.
Players on Injured Reserve may attend Club meetings and meals, travel with the Club and participate in practice sessions.
Reserve Lists
The list of players "belonging" to an NHL team is comprised of the following, the total of which may not exceed 80: Pro players (maximum of 50)
Signed junior players (who have played less than 11 professional games)
Unsigned draft choices
Defected players (unsigned draft choices who are playing in Europe)"
The other question I have, is why do we have 90 man rosters if they only have 80?
Thoughts/Comments?

why would you want to penalize teams hit by injuries?
This would complicate things while only hitting teams already hit by bad luck, so I don't the see the purpose.
Allowing to put any injured player (DTD ones included) on IR keeps things simple, cause we don't need to inquire and distinguish which players are indeed eligible for our IR and which ones are not.
Also, doing what you suggest would further increase the importance and value of waiver exempt players, cause for them
any injury would still mean you could demote them freeing up their roster spot (on top of their cap hit), something you wouldn't be able to do anymore with DTD veterans.
And I don't think further increasing the value of waiver exempt players would be fair and a good thing for our league.

I thought (at the time) the NHL did 90 as their limit. It's possible they've reduced their limit to 80 since we've started. Was it a change in the latest CBA?

An article posted in '08 (at the time of the previous CBA)...
https://www.nhl.com/predators/news/the- ... s/c-439739
Second paragraph down...
Roster Limits
Teams have four different “roster” limits to balance under the league’s regulations; a 20-player “dressed list” for games, a 23-player active NHL roster, a 50-contract maximum, and a 90-player maximum reserve list.

yeah, we progressively moved the limit up to 90 because that is (was?) the NHL limit

I'm looking at the current CBA downloaded from NHL.com...reserve list limit still says 90. it's on page 7 if you have the PDF.
"Reserve List" means the list of all Players to whom a Club has rights including
all Unsigned Draft Choices, all Players signed to an SPC (whether or not currently playing in the
NHL), and all Players who have signed an SPC but who have subsequently been returned to
Juniors. A Club may have on its Reserve List, at any one time, not more than 90 Players, which
shall include the following:
(a) Not more than 50 Players signed to an SPC and not less than 24 Players and 3
goalkeepers under an SPC. Age 18 and age 19 Players who were returned to Juniors, and who
have not played 11 NHL Games in one season, shall be exempt from inclusion in the 50 Player
limit.

hey guys - so did some more digging. Does appear that 90 contract number is in fact what the NHL uses (not sure what I initially got, even though it was off NHL.com...).
And Mik you raise a good point re: not making exempt players even more valuable. I tend to agree with you on this. The thoughts crossed my mind so I figured I would see where everyone else is at.

yeah, it's under ARTICLE 1 "Definitions", in the
"Reserve List" definition.
90 it is.

Looking for a rule clarification. With trouba currently unsigned can i send him to the minors freely without waivers?

He has no contract. So yes, as it's as though is isn't actually on your roster at all. When he signs he goes straight to your roster tho.

And if he signs while hes in my minors i can call him up at any point as well?

No. But right now he doesn't count as a roster spot.

So let me get this straight. If i sent him to my minors unsigned. If i didn't call him up before he signs a contract I'd have to keep him down until 2017/2018 or risk losing him?

No. He has no pro contract at this point. You can't actually send him to the minors, because he isn't signed. He just doesn't count against your 50 contracts, or 23 man roster. But the second he signs he automatically goes into your 23 man roster.

He's an unsigned veteran. So he counts against 90 limit but not 50 contracts, yet. Can freely be in your minors as he has no contract but when he signs he has to be called up by the next lock with appropriate roster and cap space.
