what are everyone's thoughts on the SENS-NYR deal?

I'm way too biased in this. I think Zibs is entering his prime, is just a bit below Brassard currently as a performer in the NHL, just seems a strange move. I imagine Zibs next contract is going to be 5 million + annually so not sure that it really even saves them much.

not a fan from OTT perspective, when Ziba's contract expires he is RFA, when Brassard's contract expires he is UFA and probably gone for free..

Deal doesn't make alot of sense from the Ottawa side. They trade the younger player with more upside, plus add the 2nd on top. Supposedly it's about cash flow as Brassard is 3.5m in salary and Zibby will be close to 5m after this year. Could also be that they know Zibby better and feel he's stagnated in his development or some other underlying issue that the public is not privy to.

Ottawa also has Colin White and Logan Brown coming soon up the middle so adding a true C versus Zibby who can also play W is a weird move. There has to be something going on behind the scenes here.

Brassard is only owed 3M, 3.5 3.5 from the Sens so despite the 5M cap hit the Sens get him cheap for 3 years that could have played a part with their cheap owner and gives them more money to spend over the next 3 years if they are working with an internal budget.

Apparently he had a bunch of offers on the table already, just wanted to go back to the Island. Can't say I blame him. Can't wait to go home when I retire in 75 years.
