for anyone interested
LOL.. i hope LV does pick someone useful...
They will get a ton of quality players.

You can't protect as many good players as you once could. I suspect LV will be a team full of Bozak's and Palat's

#Blackhawks agree to terms with forward John Hayden on a two-year contract that runs through the 2017-18 season.

It's no different than acquiring a guy in a trade.

If your own assets sign a contract, you have the option to put them in your lineup but most guys who sign ELCs this late in the season either aren't going to play in the NHL or aren't going to make much of an impact.

These guys on ELCs are waiver exempt so you can just keep them in the minors unless you want to play them.

What if it puts you at 51 contracts? Or can you drop guys at any time regardless of contract or not?

You can only "drop" unsigned players. Signed players have to be waived/bought out.

"Bought out" meaning waived, clearing, and then being dropped?

You can only drop contracted players during the off season. If you have 51 contracts in season then you need to trade a contract. Not sure what we do during this trade freeze.

That's exactly my question. If you cannot trade and cannot drop, what happens when a guy signs and they're not slide eligible and it puts you over 50.

My understanding is that we have a grace period for this type of situation.

As soon as we can trade/drop players, we have a week to get our contracts in order.

I could be wrong as I've never had this issue before. Maybe a CC person will explain.

By the time that opens up again it's the offseason and you can go over the limits. It's a weird situation but something we've encountered in another league so curious how it is handled here.

PLAYERS ELIGIBLE FOR SLIDE:
- 18 and 19 years old players (i.e. not turned 20 yet) as of October 1st who have not played 10 NHL games in their career yet.
- players with 0 NHL games that get signed during the season

has the player in question played any nhl games?

Use John Hayden for example. He can be slid this year because he's played 0 games even if he's 22 years old? Either bullet point counts, does not have to be both?

yep, you can make guys like him signed in season slide no matter the age. Obviously, you can't bring them up if you choose so, they've to count again the 50 limit to use them in your active lineup.

I'm repeating what others are saying...don't worry if a prospect signs after the trade deadline and it puts you other 50 contracts. Most of the time those ELCs go towards next year anyway.
