They would literally have been better off taking the best player available from every team and then making a deal at the deadline next year. Take Vatanen, Dumba, Mrazek etc. What a joke.
Now we'll have to watch that franchise flounder for 7 years till it gets to the level it could have started at next year.

This is the one parallel I was actually thinking about.Bruyns wroteCOLONRemember when the Avs were really good with 112pts and 2nd in the West 4 years ago? Still think Vegas is closer to that team than a legit contender.
I wasn't as down on them as some were after the draft though.
yep they can come at you none stop by rolling 4 lines. I think a lot of teams always talk about wanting to roll 4 lines but not a lot of teams can do it b/c their bottom 6 guys get exposed the more minutes they play.Robin Hood wroteCOLONThis is the one parallel I was actually thinking about.Bruyns wroteCOLONRemember when the Avs were really good with 112pts and 2nd in the West 4 years ago? One thing different about this Vegas team is they're a top to bottom team full of 2nd/3rd line and 2nd pairing options (something I didn't see in the players they drafted). That's one thing most teams don't have. A 3rd/4th line that can score or a 3rd pairing that plays like a 2nd pairing. Those match-ups add up over a game.
Could be a one-off season though.
More important question: if you're Vegas, do you still sell some pieces at the deadline on the assumption that rebuilding is still the right play? Or do you try to make a dent in the playoffs and even try to land 1-2 pieces for a run?
I think you do absolutely nothing and just roll with what you have. Can't dismantle a team while you are in 1st place and I don't think throwing future pieces away to improve is the right move either for a couple reasons. The 1st of which being that you don't want to damage your future on a team that might be a one time thing. Secondly, I don't think you want to mess with the chemistry of the team either which is their greatest strength.Robin Hood wroteCOLONThis is the one parallel I was actually thinking about.Bruyns wroteCOLONRemember when the Avs were really good with 112pts and 2nd in the West 4 years ago?
