I guess that's how rich teams keep the cap hit down.

Altho 5 years at 11.634m aav isn't a low cap hit.
Surprised they couldn't get lower cap for only 5 years.

Really don't like the deal at first glance, but when you do cap % instead of $ amount it looks a little better. Same cap percentage as the 5 year deal Nash signed years ago and less than some other 5 year deals.

Rick Nash only had more than 70 points once and never hit 80 points.
What a payday for him. He had an 8 year contract after that 5 year contract and got a similar percentage of cap on it. I want his agent.

It's a wise move by the Leafs and it could still end up working great for Matthews. Signing for 5 years...he'll be on the verge of being a UFA when this deal wraps up and he'll be able to cash in again. He might sign two or three big contracts in his career if his body allows it and he continues to be productive.

IMO, one of the modern day worst bench bosses. I'm not sure how he was ever employed after his leaf fiasco. His style hasn't worked since the 90s (maybe very early 2000s)

New Jersey gets a 2nd rounder back for Brian Boyle...pretty good return for an older UFA.

Is Poile going to miss GP in his fantasy league? The Predators re-acquire McLeod from the Rangers.
