Hard to say what Yzerman plans to do this summer in free agency...he hinted that he didn't want to make a big splash and wanted to be patient with the team. He sounds less likely to spend this summer than what Holland originally hinted at. Kenny actually thought they could spend money this summer and compete for a playoff spot. I don't know what team he was watching nor do I have any idea where they'll have any cap room available for any significant free agents.
If Datsyuk has a potential fit in the lineup...they've been struggling to fill the 2nd line center role. That's why the Athanasiou got a look at center when I think he's better on the wing. Nielsen should be the 3rd line center and either Glendening or De La Rose should be center the 4th line.

De la rose looked good under sheltered minutes... With the lack of offence outside of AA/Larkin, it's nearly impossible to produce as a 4th liner there but he did everything else right. Lots of heart (no pun intended) but with the extreme competitive edge DLR plays with I think he has potential to slide up and down the lineup as a catalyst piece

Detroit is far from the only team to have a legitimate 2nd line center.

Ryan Kesler has undergone successful right hip resurfacing surgery, likely meaning he will not play in 2019-20—if ever again. Kesler has been dealing with pain for a long time, and this surgery will help relieve that and give him some help in his daily life

Good on the Canes to just get him out of town if it didn't look like he wanted to be there. He'll probably get a shot at playing with the Rangers after his final year at Harvard if he's as good as he appears to be. Seems like a win-win for both clubs.
For a mid 2nd rounder and conditional 3rd. Actually good return given it was assumed he wanted to go to nyr, and that he wasn't going to sign with carolina.
Bout to be their number 1 D yessssssir
Just noticed that fox signed his entry level contract a couple weeks ago too.

Yup. Kinda figured if they traded him now, his new team was going to lock him up right away. Sounded like he wanted to play with the Rangers and they seem to have a spot for him on their defense.
I wondered if Vesey played with Fox at Harvard. Vesey's last year with the Crimson was the year before Fox's freshman year.
Harvard had a pretty talented group at that time. Vesey led the way but Alex Kerfoot and Ryan Donato were also stars on that roster.
