Babcock said his ideal captain will handle the role similar to that of Kawhi Leonard's leadership of the Toronto Raptors last season.

"They do it right every day," Babcock said. "There was a guy who played for the Raptors last year, I don't know if you remember his name. He came into town and he changed things overnight with an unbelievable demeanour, with a stick-to-itiveness like I haven't seen, with a competitive edge, not bothered by much, left all his talking to his play, and they were able to win the championship. And I thought he made the team better around him.

"To me, that's leadership, that's what they do, they bring it every single day.""

Its Matthew's. A behind the scenes video had him wearing another jersey on top but you can see the C on his chest.

I think people over-estimate the TV deal. Who actually watches sports on cable anymore. I am betting that the deal will be a disappointment.

Sports are one of the only reasons ppl still have cable IMO

It might not go up a ton, but big TV deals have happened recently in other pro sports.

Didn't Sportsnet overbid for NHL rights and that's why they're cutting expensive commentators?

Yes, but that's the Canadian market, the US market has a cheap deal and the new one is supposed to be for way more.

Yeah, as a canucks fan, I'm not happy with the boeser deal. I assume our cup window opens in 2-3 years when his deal expires, and then we will need to pay him way more. Could care less what we pay himoverthe next couple seasons. Would much rather have locked him up at 8 years x 8.5m. Or even 6 years at 8 million than 3 years at 5.9m

Honestly, the regional black-outs on TV are one of the main reasons why I cancelled my cable package. It's really quite stupid. You can either take my money and let me watch it on TV, or keep being dumb about everything and not get paid. I am sure that I am not alone here.

As a guy who has Boeser in BBKL i should probably just hold me tongue. But the jury is still out on him for me to reach this level of star potential that most are assuming he will be at this stage. Few in his corner more than I am, but some early injury concerns and inconsistency issues wouldn't have me happy committing 8+mil to this guy at this stage if his career. Plus it gets us to give him a max contract that will take him through until 32ish rather than 36/37ish. So much less risk in this deal on both ends of that coin. Yea if he explodes we will pay more, but in that situation he becomes a star talent and we got him, how horrible. This deal is very well thought out and very risk averse, i love it.

I believe just the Qualifying offer on his next contract is ~ 7.5m, so that's the minimum we will be paying him next go around injuries or not. But due to tv contract probably a lot more if he does live up to hype.
