Lol is that a thing now?
It's called being a good hockey player.
If he were that good - would he not be on the PP as well? I've never understood the hype around this kid. He's good as a middle pairing-type, but he's no elite d-man.

Anaheim = 2018/2019 Philly West, minus the loaded roster.

Only Comrie and Dahlstrom were claimed...quite a surprise but I don't think teams expect to fill a final roster spot with a waiver claim. I think injuries might dictate that the most.
Dahlstrom to the Jets makes sense...that defense is in shambles. I'm not sure of the goalie situation in Arizona with Comrie other than Raanta is a bit of an injury risk. Are they rolling with 3 goalies?

I think the next intriguing thing is the cap-clearing moves...several teams are over the cap. I'm sure of that will be resolved with LTIR and burying contracts in the AHL.

Opening night lineups...
https://www.nhl.com/news/opening-night- ... -309630236
Love having all this info immediately at your fingertips with the internet. I can remember being high school aged and going into the school library in the morning and finding the USA Today sports sections the day of NHL opening night and running a copy of the lists of the opening night rosters so I could update my rosters on the EA NHL game.
Good times...

So why are some of these guys on the roster after having passed through waivers already? Ex McKeown and Elie?

In the NHL going through waivers doesn't mean you are being sent down. It just gives teams the option of sending the player down over a specified amount of time, I believe.

From CapFriendly:
A player does not need to pass through waivers if the player has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, and has not played in 10 or more NHL games.

Ya waivers and being assigned to AHL are two separate things that don't necessarily mean the same thing. You only really see it at this time of the year: see Zack Smith last year waived but never assigned to Belleville.
